Delta-Dry The Solution that Fits Your Life Improved hygiene Ease of application Cost-effective treatment Application Manual Hip Spica Cast Quick-Dry System
02 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 03 Why Use Delta-Dry for Hip Spica Application Water resistance has become a key feature in modern cast therapy. Allowing patients to maintain hygiene is providing satisfaction to both clinicians and patients. A hip spica cast with Delta-Dry undercast padding allows for regular patient hygiene helping to reduce cast/skin complications. Delta-Dry water resistant padding can be applied like regular padding. Two-Way Quick Dry System high water concentration in product no water concentration in product 1. drainage effect 2. evaporation Water resistant cast padding with quick dry system Delta-Dry represents the most recent generation of water resistant cast paddings. Its enhanced features offer an extensive array of benefits. So, if you aim for the highest standard of care, look for Delta-Dry.
04 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 05 You Need: Preparation 2 Delta-Cast or Delta-Lite cast tape 2x 3 Delta-Cast or Delta-Lite cast tape 1x 2 Delta-Dry padding 2x 3 Delta-Dry padding 1x 4 Delta-Net Stockinette 24 piece Surgical sponge 1x Gloves Scissors Water (room temperature) Have all supplies readily accessible Insert the surgical sponge into the stockinette with a 4 margin on one side and 12 margin on the other side. Place the stockinette with surgical sponge starting on the posterior aspect moving through the pubic area and up the anterior aspect of the abdomen More space is created to allow for abdominal distention and breathing once the cast tape is fully set, e.g. different positions, after a meal.
06 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 07 Application of Delta-Dry Application of Delta-Dry Roll 2 layers of 3 Delta-Dry around the torso to create a cuff at the superior aspect of the cast The center seam of the Delta-Dry should be at the level that the cast tape will be applied Fold back approximately 3 of Delta-Dry and cut The adhesive should be in the middle of the extra piece of padding Wrap the 3 Delta-Dry around the torso Start the first layer at the center seam stitch of the cuff Overlap the Delta-Dry by 50% to ensure 2 layers of Delta-Dry cover the torso Apply the Delta-Dry around the torso to the pubis area and cut Place the extra piece of padding on the medial aspect of the thigh Place high enough so that it can be folded over the cast tape to provide a softer edge in the pubic area
08 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 09 Application of Delta-Dry Application of Delta-Dry 05. Using 2 Delta-Dry, start wrapping once around the torso Work down the leg overlapping half the bandage to ensure at least 2 layers are covering the patient 07. When securing the medial thigh pad, leave enough padding exposed at the top The padding should extend approximately ½ to ¾ beyond where the cast tape will be applied 06. After one turn around the torso, work towards the leg from the lateral to the medial side of the leg Repeat the same process for the second leg 08.
10 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 11 Application of Cast Tape Application of Cast Tape 09. Please refer to the cast tape package insert for full instructions on the right use of the product Using 2 cast tape, start by going around the torso once 11. Using 3 cast tape and starting at the center seam stitch of the Delta-Dry cuff, work down the torso overlapping by 50% 10. Apply the cast tape to the entire torso to the pubis area After one turn around the torso work towards the leg from the lateral to the medial side of the leg 12.
12 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 13 Application of Cast Tape Application of Cast Tape 13. Capture the medial padding so that the top flap of the padding is exposed Repeat the same procedure for the other leg by starting with one turn around the torso Continue down the lower leg leaving approximately ½ to ¾ of Delta-Dry exposed on the distal leg Continue down the leg (compare steps 13 & 14) 16. There is no need to fold back the Delta-Dry at the distal leg Wrap cast tape back up the leg and capture the exposed end of the medial thigh pad
14 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 15 Trimming Trimming 17. Securing the patient with one clinician, remove the stockinette covered sponge through the space in the pubis area If necessary, trim cast edges on the back Trim any areas of cast tape that may cause irritation against the patient s skin Fold Delta-Dry on the inferior and superior aspect to create a cuff 20. The pubic area should have a fold on all 4 aspects
16 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 17 Trimming 21. Apply cast tape to capture the cuff between the layers of the cast tape 22. Completed application Optionally, a leg bar for additional stabilization can be applied
18 Hip Spica Application Delta-Dry 19 Optional Leg Bar Optional Leg Bar 23. When applying a leg bar, steps 20 and 21 will be done after the application of the leg bar Fold a 2 piece of cast tape to create 3-4 layers between the patient s legs Wrap the cast tape bar with 2 cast tape several times and use the same roll to secure the bar to each leg Afterwards, the same roll of cast tape can be used to strengthen the torso and cuff the superior and inferior edges of the torso (see step 21) Twist the cast tape to make it more cylindrical providing better strength Completed application with optional leg bar 26.
