1 s Updated March 2015 Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment. To access a psychologist under Medicare you need a referral from your GP or your psychiatrist. Your doctor must first assess that you require the services of a psychologist. If the psychologist bulk bills then you will not have to pay anything. If they do not bulk bill you will need to pay the difference between the Medicare rebate and what the psychologist has charged. Steps to access a psychologist under Medicare: 1. Go to your doctor, talk to them about why you would like to see a psychologist and get a referral from them to a psychologist (preferably one who bulk bills) 2. See a psychologist, for up to 12 sessions.
