2 Welcome To Our Clinic Introduction We are a group practice comprising of health professionals who work integrally together under the auspices of the Perth Integrated Health Clinic. We have traditionally been in practise from inception in the West Perth precinct for the past twenty years and have in the past few years decentralised our clinics into two main clinics namely in Balcatta (PIHC Northern Districts) and Melville (PIHC Performance Enhancement Clinic) as well as a country practise in Cunderdin. The group practice provides support in the area of patient clinical services and data administration, business and practice development and financial management. It also coordinates practitioner training, clinical standards, research and development in concert with the expectation of the staff. 7 7. Vehicle Ergonomics Occupational therapists at PIHC conduct ergonomic reviews of vehicles onsite for the purpose of: a. Promoting better posture; b. Alleviating spinal muscular conditions; c. Advice on appropriate seating for different types of vehicles prior to purchase. PIHC also has a unique, first program in the area of Vehicle Ergonomic Assessment aimed at the needs of the transport industry from fleet companies, people who require vehicles as their mode / method of employment, car rental agencies, transportation industry to the person who needs to drive their car, free from spinal muscular aches and pains. 8. Patient Education Programs Special theme programs will be hosted bi-monthly for PIHC patients, friends and families. These seminars / workshops will be broadcast via e- mail or PIHC e-newsletters and handouts at the clinic on a regular basis. These workshops assist in the educational process as one journeys from the initial phase of care towards resolution and finally to wellness. 9. Flower Essence Therapy Flower Essences work by unlocking the innate healing potential within every human being. Flawed attitudes, with their consequent negative reactions to life situations, can cause physical disease, unpleasant mental states and are obstructions in the fulfilment of desired goals. Flower Essences heal by facilitating positive attitudinal changes. 7

Exercise Physiology Exercise Physiology is the identification of physiological mechanisms underlying physical activity; the comprehensive delivery of treatment services concerned with the improvement and maintenance of health and fitness; and the professional guidance and counsel in exercise. Exercise Physiologists match the immediate aspirations and needs of the client with the appropriate exercise interventions. Exercise programs can be designed and implemented to improve both general and specific strength, endurance and fitness. These programs can contain core strengthening, flexibility and range of movement activities with a focus on techniques to reduce occurrence of injury. These interventions will not involve physical activity in isolation but will collaborate with other health professionals to provide total rehabilitation as an overall goal of establishing and sustaining functional independence and total wellness. Exercise Physiology treatments will include the use of the Huber and Whole Body Vibration machine (WBV) to improve muscle endurance or power, muscle firing synchrony for smooth constant contractions. Use of both the Huber and WBV will increase coordination and proprioception of muscles and joints. 11. Schools Based Spinal Muscular Screening Programs & Educational Programs. Designed once again as a first for the community and to secure the future of the next generation, PIHC has developed a unique schools based spinal muscular screening program aimed at the early detection, prevention and intervention of spinal muscular conditions in primary and high school aged children. 8

9 This program is funded by PIHC and is provided to the schools as a community service on a needs basis. Huber Dynamic Treatment & Assessment Programs The Huber system at PIHC is in simple terms, the leading edge in rehabilitation and wellness technology in the world. We are proud to be the first in Australia to have acquired the Huber for the benefit of our patients and now also the appointed leader, research centre and training facility for Huber in Australia New Zealand. The Huber is a dynamic treatment and assessment system that enables your PIHC spinal muscular practitioner to diagnose, plan, determine and grade your functional performance, measure your progress and set parameters for spinal muscular rehabilitation. 9

10 The Huber is suited for all ages from children to seniors, is adaptable for ALL sports and clinical spinal muscular, neurological and functional conditions. The Huber is also now used at PIHC for the first time in the world as an assessment and treatment tool by Podiatrists. Feminine Health The ground breaking research undertaken for women in the area of bra fitting and spinal muscular conditions and the subsequent exposure of this research on Channel 7 Today Tonight program has highlighted the plight of women in the area of spinal muscular care. Our team of female spinal muscular occupational therapists focuses on the specific health needs of women and how it impacts upon their functional performance, well being and lives. Our feminine health program includes treatment of breast related conditions, pelvic floor integrity and stability, and pre, during and post pregnancy care for mothers. 14. Key Module Systems The integration of the Key Module systems at PIHC in late 2006 heralds a new era of neuromuscular rehabilitation and treatment of clinically challenging conditions. 10

Whole Body Vibration WBV is a neuromuscular treatment method that uses low to moderate vibration stimulus to improve muscular strength and power. The vibrations stimulate the body s natural stretch reflexes and causes small muscle contractions, which in turn activate nerves in the spinal cord. The continual activation and stimulation of the nervous system via the spinal cord and brain create a learned response which permits the WBV to assist with lasting changes and clinical results. Perth Integrated Health Clinic have been appointed as independent clinical research practitioners for WBV. PIHC Northern Districts Centre With the closure of our central clinic in West Perth, PIHC Northern Districts Centre in Balcatta now assumes the mantle of being our hub of operations and management. That said, both PIHC Northern Districts as well as PIHC Performance Enhancement Clinic (Melville) are equal in clinical standing where our practitioners practise at both location to cater for their patients living north and south of the river respectively. PIHC Northern Districts is our very own two storey complex located just off Erindale Road in Balcatta with easy access through all the major road portals throughout the Perth metropolitan region, as we are located merely 50 metres from the Kwinana Freeway entry and turn off points. 14 PIHC Cunderdin PIHC operates a branch practice in the heart of the Wheatbelt, Cunderdin, some 1.5-hours drive east of Perth. This practice operates on a once a week basis and is located at 5 Main Street, Cunderdin at the Telecentre. This branch operates every alternate Tuesday from 7.00 am to 4.00 pm. PIHC Cunderdin provides clinical services to the entire Wheatbelt and surrounding region with an established track record of 10 years with both Meckering and Cunderdin locals. PIHC Performance Enhancement Clinic PIHC Performance Enhancement Clinic operates full time as our southern corridor clinic in the City of Melville at the Melville Aquatic and Fitness Centre (located near Garden City). For bookings at PIHC Melville please contact or for on-the-day appointments please call the Melville Clinic direct line on Services available at PIHC PEC in Melville include Occupational Therapy, Podiatry and Exercise Physiology. Practise Hours PIHC Northern Districts (Balcatta) and PIHC Performance Enhancement Clinic (Melville) is open from Monday to Saturday with times ranging from 6 am to 7 pm, depending on the day and the practitioner on duty. 14

Insurance Cases This clinic does not recognise any insurance-based cases involving workers compensation or motor vehicle accidents. No request for reports will be entertained for insurance-based companies, as this is a private basis practice. PIHC will treat patients who are on workers compensation or motor vehicle insurance claims ONLY as private patients and will therefore communicate directly with these patients and no other third parties. You are required to submit your paid receipts to these third parties if you wish to pursue your claim directly with them. Reports All requests for written reports by the practitioners and / or administration staff regardless of the nature will incur report fees for professional services rendered. This fee must be paid in full before the report is released as a PDF document to the person. Please refer to our latest fee schedule for the costing for written reports by contacting us at: appointments@pihc.com.au Privacy Act PIHC recognises the privacy rights of the individual and subscribe to the Federal Government s Privacy Act of No part or whole of patient records will be distributed, copied or shared for the purposes of third party marketing or data harvesting. Requests for individual patient records will not be entertained unless it is accompanied by authority provided by the patient or the legal guardian / parent for a child below 18 years of age. PIHC will utilise data obtained in its records for the purposes of distributing its e- newsletter, corporate and /or printed handouts from time to time for practice development and patient education purposes. No patient files / records will leave this locked premise without the direct approval of the patient in question. 15

16 Patients have a right to access their file and its contents. Requests for duplication or photocopying of these contents are permitted but will attract an administration fee for services rendered. See our latest Fee Schedule for this service. Last Minute Cancellations Note that all appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled time will incur a full fee cancellation. This is non negotiable and an invoice will be sent to your forwarding address. On Day Payment Patients should also note that on day payment of consultancy fees attract a automatic discount. Should this payment be made after 24 hours, then the standard rate of fees applies in addition to an administration fee. Please check with our front counter about the on-day versus standard fees applicable as well as the current administration fee that is payable if payment is not made on the day. Parking There is no current fees payable at any of our clinic locations. At PIHC Northern District Centre parking is available for patients anywhere in the complex and for PIHC Performance Enhancement Clinic, parking is available for up to 2 hours at a time at the Melville Aquatic Fitness Centre, where we reside within. E-Communication Patients are to expect regular communication with their practitioners and be provided with updates and ongoing patient education through our PIHC E-News. This newsletter is a fortnightly publication and provision of your updated addresses will ensure that you are provided with the latest information which includes the happenings of your practitioners and what we do at PIHC. For those who wish to communicate (within the 24 hour window) their appointment schedule changes or bookings for appointments, you can do so also via on: appointment@pihc.com.au Compulsory Patient Education Workshop Here at PIHC we believe strongly about the education process of health and also your rights as a patient in understanding your condition and your journey towards health and wellness. To that extent, we organise not only updated information through our PIHC E-News but also insists that every new patient and if possible their family attend one of our patient education workshops that will provide them to far greater insight to their health than they realise.
