4 artmedprogram NGA: Learning and Access Department Provides practising health professionals with an opportunity for individual and group reflection during an otherwise busy working schedule. The unique gallery setting can unlock inhibitions, promoting dialogue relevant to the practice rather than the mechanics of medicine. These sessions demystify the Gallery and affirm the potential for art to intersect with the health world.

8 Comments from Participants The session was very definitely educational. I think initially it felt like just looking at art on a wall. But, the session provoked thoughts and ideas that perhaps myself and the group had not thought about previously (Nurse) It was mentioned by one of the members that art is very much about the individual s perception and this I felt was integral to this exercise. Valuing the opinion/ choice/ perception of our consumers. Taking time to listen and understand their viewpoint (Podiatrist)

That we do work in an environment that is familiar to us and not to those visiting / and especially not regularly (Podiatrist) Allowed everyone to look at the same painting / tapestry through someone else s perspective. This is always powerful and gives us a stronger insight into who we are working with. (Nurse)

The play focuses on the importance of patient and family involvement and empowerment as partners in their own health care. 30 minute discussion at the end of the performance
13 Hear Me is an intense play that explores the consequences of a medication error and failure to recognise the knowledge families hold of their loved ones.
14 The behaviorof senior staff and a climate of fear among junior staff underpin the story which uncovers the enormous potential for partnering with patients while improving quality and safety

Moving and right on the money The play was very good to remind me about the importance of listening to the patients/parents who know their children more than others.
