Paper 08/ Design: Experimental Received on March Reviewed on Aprl 2015 COMPARISON OF SELECTED PSYCHOLOGICAL VARIABLE AMONG URBAN AND RURAL PLAYERS OF BHOPAL AUTHORS Mrs Namarata Tripathi Research scholar, Barktulla University Bhopal (M.P) ABSTRACT Background: - Elite performance in sports does not merely depend upon systematic training of physical, physiological variables and technical aspects of sports but, it also demand training of psychological characteristics of the sports man to success in competitions. Objective: - The purpose of this investigation was to compare the mental toughness among urban and rular players of Bhopal. Method: -. To attain this aim, a total of 200 subjects with 15 to 19 years of age and having physical education as one of the subject were randomly selected from different schools Bhopal. The subject Stress was assessed with the help of questionnaire made by Dr. Tajindra Kaur, Dr. Prerna Kumar and Prof. Manju Mehta. Results: - The data received from the participants was analyzed by employing t-test. The results of the study showed that the rural players have high level of stress in comparison to urban. Conclusion: - By revealing the importance of the differential accessibility of stress in rural and urban school settings, this study clarifies why urban schooling helps adolescents to gain a better self-concept of ability in school subjects and environment that might lead urban to a higher level in their life. Key words: rural, urban Stress, Questionnaire. INTRODUCTION Education is the only field where a child spends his important years of his life, the formative years, and a maximum portion of his life. These years play a vital role in the child s overall development and his field of socialization. Hence, the choice of an institution which a child or parent makes is determined by various factors and not alone by the factor whether an institution is a rural area or a urban area. 1 53

2 Research journal conversation between urban planning, architecture and neuroscience, in the hope of facilitating a more nuanced understanding of how urban and rural living conditions differentially impact upon our mental health. At a first glance, there are enormous methodological differences between the disciplines of urban planning and neuroscience. Urban living is on the rise whereas rural living is becoming the exception in all parts of the world and at an ever-increasing rate. The rapid pace of urbanisation is an important marker of the societal transition at large that has occurred over the past 30 years. Stress is the unspecific physiological and psychological reaction to perceived threats to our physical, psychological or social integrity. And urban living can be threatening if you haven t enough space of your own, if you experience insufficient security or live under unstable economic conditions. Stress increases with the anticipation of adverse situations and the fear of not having the adequate resources to respond to them. From an evolutionary point of view, stress is the mechanism that prepares us for any fight-or-flight reaction, and also causes us to evolve in order to better adapt to our environment. Although not harmful per se, stress may jeopardise our health when stress exposure is chronic or when complete recovery is not possible. The major reason for stress was the fact that the rural schools were single gender schools and the study claimed that the urban schools offered a friendlier and more relaxed atmosphere with more opportunities for pleasure-centered social contact which de-stresses students. 4 Hence, the present study has been formulated to verify the effects of single-sex and co-educational schooling on stress among school going girls. METHODOLOGY For the purpose of this study 200 subjects (N=200) with years of age, and having physical education as one of the subject, were randomly selected from total 20 different i.e., 10 urban and 10 Rural of bhopal. Stress of the student was assessed with the help of questionnaire made by Dr. Tajindra Kaur, Dr. Prerna Kumar and Prof. Manju Mehta. Stress was only the criterion variable in this study. Data was collected by means of questionnaire comprising of 26 questions. Permission for participation of school children was taken from the principal of the school. All subjects were distributed and requested to fill the questionnaire. The 54

3 questionnaire provide information in a variety of stress indicators and in this report would be logical validity.the items relate to almost all the relevant components of the children which causing stress in some way or the other such as, group pressure, responsibility,under participation,powerlessness, poor peer relations, low status, strenuous working condition and unprofitability.. Data was analyzed and compared by employed t- test. RESULTS The data collected was statistically analyzed by t-test in Table 1. However, the mean value of stress for the student studying in rural school (53.57) was higher than urban students (51.39) Mean SD Rural Urban 55

4 DISCUSSION The statistical finding of the present study revealed that there was significant difference on stress among school going students student. However, mean value showed suject belonging torural schooling have high stress than subject belonging to urban schooling. Every person has the right to a free, quality education. Rural and urban schools all have the potential to provide safe, empowering learning to the students. A priority for policy makers is to ensure teacher training and curriculum development respond to rural' as well as urban' learning needs in all schools. rural education is not a panacea for student, but some situations make it an effective option. CONCLUSION With the limitation of the study it may be concluded that there was significant difference between rural and schooling on stress among school going students. Results showed that student belonging to urban schooling have high stress in comparison to student belonging to urban schooling. This might be the reason for fruitless performance of student s in sports and physical activities.
