2 Keep the Fire Burning Without Burning Out Jeff Doucette, MS, RN, CEN, FACHE, NEA-BC Founding Partner Doucette & Associates Course description: You cannot afford to put all your time and energy into work alone. If you put all your time and energy into your job you will have little time for much else. No one knows anyone whose dying words were I wish I had spent more time at work! Attend this session and you will learn ways to be more effective at work and better manage stress so you can actually enjoy your work and begin to regain your life away from the office. Your life outside of work takes effort, but the rewards of love and contentment are greater than any job has to offer! Course objectives: At the end of this session, the participant will: 1. List five strategies for improving effectiveness at work 2. List 3 steps to a more balanced work-life 3. Discuss the negative effects of stress on the human body. The picture of success is not the same for any two people unknown If you ask the average person, they can't tell you the vision they have for their life. Most can tell you what they think success looks like, but so many believe that their own definition of success is out of their reach. Therefore, the person s vision and the definition of success must be aligned. Alignment begins by: Understanding and living your purpose Working to reach your full potential Sowing the seeds of your legacy
3 Putting Yourself on the Road to Success Defining what success looks like for you is accomplished by: Focusing on one goal when you have more than one major life goal, you are unable to prioritize resources and effort directed at meeting your goals and can often lead to internal conflict. Commit to always improving learning never stops. As a leader, you should read at least 15 minutes a day and always be open to try something new. Forget the past so many times we get so caught up in the past that we lose sight of the future, but more importantly, our ability to focus on the present. Respect the past, but don't let it define how you live in the present. Maintain future focus respect the past, live in the present, and have a focus on the future. You are more likely to achieve things in life that you are able to envision. The Power of A Dream A blind man's world is bound by the limits of his touch; an ignorant man's world by the limits of his knowledge; a great man's world by the limits of his vision. ~ Unknown A dream is defined as a succession of images, thoughts, or emotions passing through the mind during sleep. an involuntary vision occurring to a person when awake. a vision voluntarily indulged in while awake; daydream; reverie. an aspiration; goal; aim: A trip to Europe is his dream. a wild fancy. something of an unreal beauty, charm, or excellence. When working towards your life goals, having dreams is essential in order to: Give your life direction Increase your potential Help prioritize your decisions Add value to your life Predict our future I firmly believe that any man's finest hour his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear is that moment when he has worked his heart and soul out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle victorious. ~ Vince Lombardi The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we are but in what direction we are moving. ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
