5 : Drug De-addiction Dates of the Event / Activity : 6-Sep-2014 : All Humanities Students : The students interacted with Mr. Yashpal who enlightened the students about the various types of drugs and the repercussions of abusing these drugs. The students also got an opportunity to interact with a reformed drug user who shared his experiences about how he started to abuse drugs and the struggle he had to go through to give it up. : Students were made aware about all the variety of drugs available and treatment procedures for addicts. Ms. Petra Ute Mattes (Resource Person) : The workshop conducted by German expert Ms. Mattes focused on psychological trauma. 10 : Workshop on Suicide and the Role of Parents and Teachers in its prevention Dates of the Event / Activity : 12-Aug-2016 : Common Room (Management Bldg) : All Staff and Students : : The event highlighted various cognitive, emotional, behavioural and physiological symptoms of stress and depression, and emphasized upon the urgency of action required to save the life of the child concerned. He exemplified his points through various videos and instances that dealt with the impact of a child s suicide on parents, and the first hand experience of depression by a famous personality, highlighting the fact that no one is immune to either of them if the situation goes out of control. A short skit was also performed by the first year students of BSSS, emphasizing the conditions that lead to suicide. He also talked about the impact of different parenting styles and their attitude towards punishment on a child s psyche, reasons that lead to suicide and some myths that people have about it. Lastly, he made the audience aware of simple yet effective ways in which suicide can be prevented and the child concerned can be brought back into the main stream. These included persistency, careful body language, preparedness to action, involving the child in activities that he/she enjoys, construction of success, and most interestingly asking the child to make a Hope-kit, a box which will give him/her reasons to live. For the audience, which consisted of teachers from different schools as well as students of the college towards the causes, symptoms and preventive measures for suicide.
