2 WELL-BEING AND HEALTH PROMOTION OF LAVAL ENGLISH-SPEAKING SENIORS AGAPE S SENIOR S HPP WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING 4 ACTIVITIES: BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER IDENTIFIED COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS WHO OFFER SERVICES TO ENGLISH-SPEAKING SENIORS OF LAVAL. PROMOTE AND PRESENT THE HEALTH PASSPORT TO THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING SENIORS OF LAVAL. CREATE AWARENESS WITHIN THE NPI AND THE CISSS LAVAL AS TO THE NEEDS OF ENGLISH-SPEAKING SENIORS OF LAVAL. OFFER 14 HEALTH PROMOTION SESSIONS/ACTIVITIES

3 WHY THIS IS A PRIORITY ACCORDING TO STATISTICS, IN 2011, THERE WERE 82,255 ENGLISH SPEAKERS LIVING IN LAVAL REPRESENTING 20.9% OF THE POPULATION 8,425 ARE 65+ IN CLSC CHOMEDEY ALONE, WE FIND 41,920 ENGLISH SPEAKERS REPRESENTING 34.7% OF THE POPULATION, OUT OF THAT 5,768 WERE SENIORS 65+, REPRESENTING 13.8% AND IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE FRENCH-SPEAKING MAJORITY.

5 Hero in 30 Hero in Thirty is a certified training course to learn the essential steps for saving lives, which includes the simplified version of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): a simple and effective method using only cardiac massage, without mouth-to-mouth ventilation. The very successful sessions were animated by certified CPR instructor from the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Martin Boyczum. June 9 and June 16

6 Improving the Quality of our Services Focus Group and Presentation from CAAP Laval Have a story to share? We want to hear it. Filing a complaint is not an act with negative connotations. On the contrary, it allows the institutions to adjust and correct situations that may have never been observed otherwise. 7 Take the Pressure off High Blood Pressure DVD and Question period with Micheline Da Silva, Public Health Nurse, CISSS de Laval High blood pressure is a common condition in which the force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease. Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure. Learn more about blood pressure and specifically what is normal blood pressure, how to measure and monitor blood pressure, and how to prevent and treat high blood pressure. August 11

8 WILLS AND MANDATES An informative session to explain in easy to understand language what it means to create a will as well as a protection mandate. Educaloi is a leader in the movement to improve access to justice in Quebec. The core of their mission is explaining the law to Quebecers in everyday language. This session will be animated by Sarah Dougherty, Lawyer and Head of services for English-speaking communities. September 8

9 Information and Specialized Services to Alzheimer s Disease and Related Illnesses Alzheimer s is a progressive, degenerative disorder that leads to major disabilities and even incapacity. It is a disease that involves families and relatives by placing them in the role of primary caregiver. This presentation will give an overview of specialized services for Alzheimer s disease and related illnesses such as dementia. Presentation by Diane Lauzon, Specialized Counselor from Alzheimer Society Laval. ASL is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to help and support people affected by Alzheimer s disease or a related illness, to raise awareness and inform the public and professionals who work with individuals with AD.
