2 It s PRIME time! 2016 was a year of great progress for the Conemaugh Health System and we re looking forward to another exciting year ahead. Our new Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Center is well underway and plans continue for a similar facility in Ebensburg. Our new electronic medical record is up and running enabling our staff to provide more efficient and safer care for our patients. In the past year, we have welcomed more than 30 new physicians and successful recruitment continues to be a top priority. Conemaugh Memorial s Plastic Surgery services recently moved to Johnstown s Conemaugh Medical Park in a beautiful new office with many features designed to enhance patient comfort, education and privacy. The new site includes eight exam rooms, an operating room for minor procedures and an aesthetician room where patients can have skin treatments including facial fillers like Botox and Juvederm, chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Two of the eight exam rooms are specifically designed for hand procedures. Hand surgeries are some of the most common procedures our team performs, says Dr. Paul Rollins. We treat many patients for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, nerve and tendon repair, lesion removal and trigger finger repairs. Cosmestic surgery care is available for both men and women. Many procedures can be done on an outpatient basis, says Dr. Kamran Shayesteh. Even complex surgical issues can be treated using minimally invasive techniques which allow for a quicker recovery, fewer complications and nearly invisible scars.

4 Telestroke Because every second matters Like a heart attack, a stroke or brain attack requires immediate medical attention. The sooner the patient gets help, the better their chances of surviving. Getting help quickly is the key, says Dr. Todd Lynn, Director of Stroke Medicine at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. That is why we are so pleased to introduce this telestroke program to our region. It will truly help us save critical time when treating stroke patients. 5 Telestroke is a mobile telecommunications system that allows for quicker communication and connection from physicians to patients when a stroke alert is activated in the emergency room. The technology includes a secure, two-way audio/visual link between neurologists at Conemaugh Memorial and emergency room physicians and nurses caring for stroke patients at remote locations. This technology allows us to speak directly to patients, medical staff and family members at a distant location to access critical information in real time, says Dr. Nicholas Lanciano, Conemaugh Physician Group - Neurology. Neurologists, like myself, can complete an interview and examination of the patient to help provide rapid, efficient triage and treatment for stroke patients. Neurologists at Conemaugh Memorial are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So stroke patients who come into emergency rooms at Conemaugh Meyersdale and Nason Hospital now have access to those neurologists through the telestroke technology. Each year 795,000 strokes occur in the U.S. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability. Alteplase/tPA is the only FDA approved medicine for treating ischemic strokes. Alteplase works by dissolving the clot allowing blood to flow to the part of the brain deprived of blood flow. A person s chances of recovering from a stroke may improve after receiving alteplase.* *National Stroke Association

6 Breaking Ground on the Future of Healthcare The final steel beam of the new Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Center building in Richland was laid just prior to the beginning of the New Year. The building construction is scheduled to be completed by the end Planning for a new Conemaugh Ebensburg Outpatient Center is also underway. The facility will house the latest diagnostic and lab technology as well as Corporate Care, MedWELL Urgent Care, rehabilitation services, primary care and physician specialty offices. Often patients must travel from their physician s office to other locations for testing, imaging or to visit a specialist. Our new Conemaugh East Hills and Ebensburg facilities will offer a variety of outpatient services under one roof, says Dr. Susan Williams, Chief Medical Officer, Conemaugh Health System. These centers are designed to make patient convenience a priority. The new outpatient centers in Richland and Ebensburg come on the heels of a new center that opened to patients in Meyersdale in Patients love this new building, says Conemaugh Meyersdale President Heather Smith. It is a convenient, one-stop location and has become a focal point for healthcare in our region. As part of our affiliation with Duke LifePoint Healthcare, we were able to invest in a $50 million electronic medical record system called Conemaugh Connect, powered by Epic, says Steve Tucker, Conemaugh Health System CEO. This system is safer and more efficient and allows patients to have their complete medical history, family history, allergies, medications and more accessible to their physician at any location.
