The total population according to the 00 Census of Licking County was 66,49 and 8,7 (3%) residents have a 430 zip code. There are a few other health care providers throughout the county but leave limited options for the rest of the population.

The Licking County Health Department (LCHD) developed a Community Health Assessment in 0 to provide an overview of a variety of factors affecting the overall public health system in Licking County. The information collected will be used as a tool to evaluate the overall health status of Licking County residents. The LCHD will work with county partners to address the issues negatively impacting the public. Included in the Community Health Assessment was the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) results. The purpose of the survey was to assess the health status, quality of life, and health risk factors negatively impacting Licking County residents. The 0 BRFSS telephone survey included 83 Licking County adults.

Table : Licking County BRFSS Survey Results This table represents the results from the 0 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) for Licking County. The telephone survey included 83 residents of Licking County.

In March 0, the Licking County Health Department (LCHD) conducted a Community Themes and Strengths Assessment. In conducting the assessment LCHD staff facilitated focus groups in different locations around Licking County. The focus groups participants discussed their thoughts on quality of life issues and health concerns in their communities. The assessment provided LCHD staff members with an excellent opportunity to personally interact with the department s constituents and discuss the most prominent issues affecting their health. The following topics were identified from the focus groups regarding health care access in Licking County. Strengths/Healthy Things Challenges/Unhealthy Things Health Department Services Social Services Agencies Health Care Options (Doctors and Hospitals) Access to Treatment Free Services (Vaccinations and Dental Clinics) Community Health Clinic Addiction Services Access to Hearing/Vision Services Transportation Prevention instead of Treatment

Overall there are a variety of health care services offered in Licking County. Most services are located in Newark (430) and with Licking County being the second largest county by land area in the state, the lack of affordable transportation can be a problem. The 0 BRFSS identified the number of people without health care coverage and the lack of access to health care to be increasing since 006. Affordable transportation and the locations of health care services could explain the results for no access to health care from the BRFSS. The Community Themes and Strengths focus groups identified the free health services in the county as a strength but it s possible that not everyone in the county are aware of such services. These free services (dental clinics and vaccinations) are important with the increasing number of individuals with no health care coverage. Transportation to these health care services and affordability appear to be the two main gaps for the residents of Licking County. Assessment released January 03
