The hospital is situated in the centre of St Helier, just minutes from the town centre. Overdale Hospital is our rehabilitation hospital and is about 15 minutes walk from the General Hospital, Psychiatric Hospital Queen s House is located in St Saviours Parish about 15 minutes drive. Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands and is only 14 miles from France. We have long sandy beaches and a rich countryside, with scenic views. The hospital is a five minute walk from the coast. Dr Andrew Brett, Foundation Programme Director Dr Tim Malpas, Director of Medical Education The Harvey Besterman Education Centre is a multidisciplinary centre. There are seven teaching rooms, with PowerPoint, broadband, smartboard, flip charts, and Xray machines. The Lecture Theatre seats 100 and has up to date equipment including video conferencing, powerpoint, DVD, single and dual Slide Projectors and elmo all activated by touch screen. The accommodation is only 2 minutes walk from the General Hospital and over looks the parade gardens. Accommodation is offered free of charge to all FY1s & FY2s, with the exception of electricity and telephone the accounts are sent out monthly. There is a large canteen/restaurant and Special Functions room in the main hospital which serves excellent food. The menu is changed daily with a good selection of hot meals and salads. Also in situ is a friendly snack bar which is highly

5 recommended for their sandwiches, and yoghourt pots. In the main reception area we have a coffee /snack bar open to all visitors. Wessex Deanery Doctor s mess Local Amenities Contacts The Doctors Mess is situated at the corner of the hospital, newly decorated, it consists of a Snooker Room, and Television Lounge with flat screen television and video, Newly fitted Kitchen with cooking utensils and Computer room with Broadband. The Hospital is close by to the Fitness First centre, which includes a swimming pool, weight training and various keep fit equipment. There are quite a few private fitness centres attached to hotels which you may prefer to join. Close by to the Hospital is the Waterfront where there is a cinema, various clubs, night spots and restaurants. The night life in Jersey is excellent for young people, with many clubs to visit. Jersey is famous for its restaurants; we have French, Italian, and Thai, Chinese, Indian, Polish and Portuguese restaurants.
