1 Prof. Afzal Javed WPA Secretary for Sections WPA Section on Dual Disorders/Pathology 2014 Report At the meeting of the WPA Executive Committee in November 2011, there was full agreement to approve the creation of a new WPA Section on Dual Disorders/Pathology as an ad hoc Section. In September 2014, the WPA General Assembly in Madrid will be asked to change the status from an ad-hoc to a permanent WPA Section. Chair: Nestor Szerman. Spain Co-Chair: Nady El-Guebaly. 4 Amine Benyamina (France) Pier Maria Furlan (Italy) Philip Ahershon (UK) Nelson Feldman (Switzerland) Vincent Balanza (Spain) Eugenio Grevet (Brasil) The Section has conducted a series of actions (consensus statement: Flyer: 10 basic points on dual Pathology: Addiction and other Mental illness-2012; Letter to the WPA Sections, To the Chairs and bearers of WPA Sections and letters to others sections) and collaborated in joint scientific activities within meetings organized by the WPA and by other scientific organizations, carried out a number of Scientific meetings such as the Coimbra (Portugal) Meeting (2013), Morocco meeting (2014), International Congress Dual Pathology 2013; an educational and training Program on Dual Disorders also co-sponsored by WPA; Backed by WPA also the Workshops on Dual Pathology and Female gender, that have taken place in Bilbao (2012) Valencia (2013) Madrid (2014) Valencia (2014) Joint activities, in 2014 a Congress in Morocco, as well as a Luso/Brasilian/ Spanish event in Coimbra (Portugal; 8thALBATROS Congress (International Congress of Addictology) with the theme Addictions from trasversality to partnership organized by the Centre d'enseignement et de traitement des Addictions (CERTA) de l'hôpital universitaire Paul Brousse Villejuif - France in collaboration with the WPA Section on Dual Disorders / Pathology to be held in Paris, France, on 5-6 June, 2014, have also taken place The Dual Pathology/Disorders Section will also contribute with a special track on dual disorders with 21 symposiums at the XVI World Congress of Psychiatry to be held in Madrid in September this year At the present we intend to go from an ad-hoc section to be a permanent WPA section by law of the WPA statutes, and we hope the positive vote at the general Assembly in the Madrid meeting

5 At a later moment, it is our intention to hold a Section meeting in Spain in order to review and update the work done in the triennium, present proposals and discuss what actions should be taken and presented from the Section to the WPA Secretary for Sections.
