3 Objectives Increase awareness of the types and effects of drugs. Gain knowledge on the adverse effects of drugs on the individual and workplace. Revision of related ADF policy Provide information on the services available for Drug and assistance.

4 Tobacco Smoking is an important risk factor for the three diseases that cause most deaths in Australia: heart disease, stroke and lung cancer. Smoking has also been linked to cancers of the mouth, bladder, kidney, stomach and cervix, among others. It is responsible for around 80% of all lung cancer deaths and 20% of all cancer deaths. Using tobacco has been linked to a variety of other conditions, such as diabetes, peptic ulcers, some vision problems, and back pain. Smoking in pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth.

8 ADF policy The ADF has a zero tolerance policy to the use or involvement of any prohibited substance by any member of the ADF Any suspected involvement with prohibited substances may be subject to an investigation by military or civil police or both, or testing under the PSTP, and may result in disciplinary and/or administrative action being taken against you which may lead to termination of your appointment or discharge.
