The Flowtron Active Compression System Tri Pulse TM Garment and ACS800 Pump Comfortable, Convenient and Clinically Effective...with people in mind
VTE A PREVENTABLE PROBLEM. PULMONARY EMBOLISM (PE) RESULTING FROM DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS (DVT) IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF PREVENTABLE MORTALITY IN ACUTE CARE ENVIRONMNENTS. 1 Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a major health concern in hospitalised patients. Every year an estimated one million Europeans suffer from VTE and one third of those die 2. In the U.S., up to $39.9 billion is spent treating preventable hospital acquired VTE every year 3. Whilst 50 percent of all hospital inpatients may be at risk of VTE, only half receive adequate protection despite the wide availability of effective preventative measures 1. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is highly preventable. The consistent use of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC) has been clinically proven as a safe and effective method of reducing venous stasis in hospitalised patients with reduced mobility. IPC has been shown to be clinically effective in a wide range of surgical and medical specialities 4. Its inflation-deflation cycle enhances what the body does naturally mimicking the ambulatory calf and foot pumps to move the blood in the deep veins of the leg and thereby reducing the risk of VTE.
Introducing Tri Pulse. Discover more comfort in VTE Prevention The Tri Pulse garments provide excellent comfort during IPC therapy. 5 The soft, breathable garments are available in a wide range of sizes to comfortably meet the needs of patients. The Flowtron DVT System is easy to use with quick setup features that make it convenient for clinicians, and it has been proven to be clinically effective in the delivery of IPC to reduce the risk of DVT. 6 Comfortable, convenient, clinically effective discover the difference with Tri Pulse garments. Tri Pulse is effective in preventing venous stasis in the calf and thigh by emptying the deep veins sequentially.the total blood flow response is similar to other types of intermittent pneumatic compression that have been demonstrated to prevent deep vein thrombosis. Dr Rhys Morris, Principal Medical Physicist / Honorary Senior Research Fellow, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff Comfortable Enhanced performance in independent breathability study 5 Lightweight garments which are non-thermal in nature 5 Excellent moisture management properties 5 Convenient One system for all IPC therapy requirements Extensive range of garments with fully Automatic Garment Recognition One button start-up feature for ease of use Clinically Effective Supported by independent blood flow 7, usability and clinical outcome studies 6 Alternative therapy for patients at high risk of bleeding 8 Integrated Patient Compliance Monitor for improved concordance
Airflow Light fabric Comfortable The Tri Pulse garments non-thermal, moisture management properties help keep the patient s skin cool and dry 5, which can lead to greater compliance with IPC prevention. Lightweight mesh outer fabric helps prevent build up of heat, to keep the patient s skin cool and dry. 5 Cushioning interior fibres aid patient comfort. Unique winged-shaped bladder Soft and breathable inner fabric transfers heat and moisture away from the skin through small micro vents. 5 The garment and its bladder have a curved design that follows the natural curve of the leg. The unique wing-shaped bladder envelops the calf or thigh for improved fit. Pressure is delivered through a single tube positioned on the anterior of the leg away from the bony prominence. Breathable Fabric (R et ) Rapid Drying Time Low Thermal Rating (TOG) LOW IS BETTER Non-breathable Breathable Tri Pulse Cotton Target Tri Pulse Industry Standard R et Value Weight Variance Tog R et measures the resistance to water vapour transmission through a barrier. Industry standards (EN31092) state that a fabric with scores of >40 is non-breathable, is semi-breathable and <20 is breathable. Tri Pulse garments achieved a score of 5.6; almost as breathable as cotton. 5 LOW IS BETTER Perspiring is one of the body s methods of thermoregulation. Water can absorb a high amount of heat energy when it evaporates, and this creates a cooling effect. A fast drying time indicates that liquid such as perspiration can evaporate away from the garment quickly. This can help the body cool. A dry vs. wet weight variance of 0.05 over 8 hours shows how quickly fluid has evaporated away from the material. Tri Pulse garments achieved a dry vs. wet weight variance of markedly quicker than Tri Pulse LOW IS BETTER To minimise the risk of perspiring or increased heat production during wear time, VTE prevention garments should be non-thermal this means that they do not generate additional heat. A single plate procedure is used to determine the thermal resistance of the fabric. A fabric is considered non-thermal if it rates 0.8 Tog or less. Tri Pulse garments achieved a rate of Conclusion Tri Pulse garments have been identified as very effective in transferring water vapour away from the patient s skin...enhancing patient comfort, increasing patient compliance. 5 Conclusion Tri Pulse garments have been identified as having the ability to dry quickly, therefore...enhancing patient comfort, increasing patient compliance. 5 Conclusion Tri Pulse garments recorded low thermal ratings, therefore...enhancing patient comfort, increasing patient compliance. 5
Convenient Tri Pulse is easy to use so clinicians can quickly provide patients with the therapy they need. Single pump system for all garments, both uniform and sequential. The pump s unique SmartSense Auto Garment Recognition feature automatically identifies the type of garment connected and adjusts the therapy cycle accordingly. Integrated long-life battery for continuous protection when transporting patients. Clinically Effective IPC has been clinically proven to be an effective strategy for VTE prophylaxis. Tri Pulse is effective in preventing venous stasis in the calf and thigh by emptying the deep veins sequentially. The total blood flow response is similar to other types of intermittent pneumatic compression that have been demonstrated to prevent deep vein thrombosis. Dr. Rhys Morris IPC therapy increases the volume and rate of venous blood flow when patients are immobile. 9 Pressure is delivered through three chambers of the unique wing-shaped bladder. Chambers inflate sequentially from the ankle upward, then deflate through two outlets at the top and bottom of the garment. Tri Pulse delivers therapy on a one-minute cycle. Single patient use reducing risk of cross contamination. Blood Flow Graph Tri Pulse THERAPY Data/image courtesy of Dr R Morris from vascular blood flow testing conducted at University Hospital of Wales February 2014 The Flowtron Active Compression System with Tri Pulse is: Comfortable for the patient, convenient for the healthcare provider and clinically effective at delivering sequential intermittent pneumatic compression contributing to improved patient compliance.
