2 Living a healthy lifestyle can be very challenging when we need to eat out, travel or go on a business trips because by now you know too much to just eat any food out there. Most people that live a healthy lifestyle also juice frequently, so what to do when we are on vacation, visiting family or in a business trip? Here are my four tips on keeping drinking your juice when you re out on the road. 1-Search the Area: Go to Google maps and put in the hotel address or the address that you will be staying on the map. Then search Near By for fresh juice, juice or vegan food. Contact them and see if they would deliver the fresh juices to your hotel every day of your stay. 2. Tell Your Story: Reach out to the hotel staff and ask, who handles the food at the hotel/resort? Share your story and the fact that you are juicing 100% or need to have a juice one or two times a day. Most of the time they will even complement you or say they watched the movie Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead and they might even have been drinking a fresh juice every day ever since as I heard about it once. And the guy had lost 40 pounds and felt great. By sharing my juicing journey with others in more of a personal way, not a lecture or trying to prove a point, more of the fun and better deals with your health you will have. You will be amazed at the people at hotels, restaurants and conference centers and how they want to help. 3. Carry with you an Organic Green Powder: You can easily mix it with water or coconut water for a hydrating beverage. It s not as tasty, but you will still be giving your body a good nutrition. 4- Last but not least, bring your own mini-blender with you if you really can t stay without a fresh juice. But in that case, there are more steps to follow: -As soon as you land, look for the closest Whole Foods or any other supermarket around your hotel and buy the following: -A pre-washed and organic bag of spinach or cut Kale/collard greens or any other dark leaf veggie fc@flaviahcampos.com flaviahcampos.com 2
3 -Coconut water and/or your favorite nut milk (Almond, coconut, hempseed milk, etc.). Make sure to buy the one with the lowest contents of sugar in it. If possible a small glass of coconut oil to add a spoon of coconut oil in your juices. -A bag of organic frozen berries or frozen banana. Or if you prefer fresh fruits, try organic apples. 4- The Range - From a Fresh Juice to a not so fresh: As you travel through airports, conference centers and hotels you will find yourself at a point where you need to get a juice and then think, what should I do? There is a range of everything; on the right side there is a fresh homemade juice with the freshest organic veggies you can find and at the far left, there is the not so fresh the worst thing you can drink. So when looking at a juice that is in a bottle look for Evolution juice (can be found at Starbucks) but sometimes you only have Naked Juice when there are no cold pressed juiced options. It is important to do the best you can while traveling and moving beyond the home front. The goal is to eat healthy, eat what you can to get the best food choices into your body but at the same time it is not about freaking out or being tethered to my juicer at home. While at the supermarket, if you are staying in a hotel that you could have your own source of Survival Kit, you can stock on some basic stuff, such as: whole avocado, nuts, coconut water (but check the added sugar and make sure to choose the one with less sugar), lemon, organic almond butter, chia seeds to add to water, a salad or a yogurt for a healthy dose of Omega 3 fatty acids. They now are sold in individual packets, which are great for travelling. If you are staying in a family or friend s house that follow the same rules that you have at your house (Wild Caught, Grass Fed, Organic, Locally Sourced, etc.), great! If not, maybe you can offer to cook a meal for them and go to the supermarket and get your own ingredients, but if not, there is not much you can do besides share a meal with them. Now, if you are conscious enough to want to avoid certain ingredients like: natural flavors, GMO s, excessive added sugar, etc. consider these suggestions, after all sometimes we can t avoid certain situations, but we still have some options. Dining-out GMO free certainly isn t easy. In fact, most towns don t have GMO-Free restaurants. With that said, I suggest reading and following these advices when attempting to eat GMO free. fc@flaviahcampos.com flaviahcampos.com 3
4 AVOID THESE GMO FOODS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE Corn Soy Sugar (refined sugar from beets) Papayas (from Hawaii) Canola oil Cotton seed oil Dairy & Eggs (conventional American cow s milk and cheese) Zucchini/yellow squash Conventional Meat (they are fed GM corn & soy) OILS GM canola, corn, and soy oil are the cheapest for restaurants to purchase (even Whole Foods Supermarket cooks with canola oil What s up with that Whole Foods?). Ask your server about the oils they use to make their foods. This is where GMO s are hidden in almost everything from salad dressing to main dishes, even if they are not deep fried. In general, avoid corn, soy, cottonseed and canola oils. EXCEPTION TO THE RULES Cheese and dairy from France are OK to have. France has banned GMO s all together. HIDDEN GMO s INGREDIENTES Look out for these hidden GM ingredients: Amino Acid, Aspartame, Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Flavorings ( natural and artificial ), High Fructose Corn Syrup, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Lactic Acid, Maltodextrins, Molasses, Monosodium Glutamate, Sucrose, Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP), Xanthan Gum, Vitamins, Yeast Products. GMO SUGAR Hopefully the sugar they use is 100% pure cane, because if it is from GM sugar beets it is not suitable to eat. fc@flaviahcampos.com flaviahcampos.com 4

Professional reviews are included for each restaurant featured. -FoodRevolution.org This app allows you to find restaurants and what type of sustainable and healthy food options they offer. It also allows users to recommend restaurants that they have found. -Locals Yes, don t forget to ask them!
