6 Mayo de 2018 Página 6 Developing HEALTHY Habits in Kids Developing healthy habits early in life leads to a healthier lifestyle as an adult. Follow these tips from Nemours Health and Preventive Services to help teach kids healthy habits! FIVE or more servings of fruits and veggies daily 5 Fruits and veggies are low in calories and fat while being full of vitamins and minerals. They are full of water and fiber, which promotes a healthy weight, helps you feel full, and aids digestion. Fresh, frozen, canned and dried fruits and veggies are all good options. Try to avoid foods with added sugars or that are packed in sauces. Keep fruits and veggies out on the counter or in the fridge where they are easy to see and grab to eat. TWO hours or less of screen time daily 2 Screen time includes any time spent in front in of the TV, computer or playing video games. and negatively affects school performance ONE hour of physical activity each day 1 around the house. Benefits of being physically active include maintaining a healthy weight, better ability to learn, improved sleep, and building strong muscles and bones Give gifts that encourage physical activity balls, jump ropes, skates, gardening tools. Almost ZERO sugary drinks 0 Sugary drinks can lead to tooth decay, weight gain and increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes. Aim for no more than 2 servings per week of soft drinks, sports drinks and fruit juice that is not 100% fruit. Replace sugary drinks with water, milk and 100% fruit juice so kids are getting the nutrients they need for strong bones and healthy bodies. Try adding different fruits to water for added flavor.
