8 Task Force Background Formed April 2008 after the CEOs of the four major health systems serving Detroit decided to collaborate on infant mortality reduction Nancy Schlichting asked Dr. Kimberlydawn Wisdom to chair and convene The call for public-private partnership to reduce infant mortality could not be clearer or more compelling: At 6.1 infant deaths per 1000 live births, the U.S. ranks near the bottom among developed nations for infant mortality Michigan s infant mortality rate is 7.1 per 1000 live births Detroit s infant mortality rate is 14.4 per 1000 live births The IMR for black babies is 15.9 versus 5.6 for white babies
