1 page 2 Describe briefly your experience as the holder(s) of the Chair of women's studies. Include the aspects of the activities of the Chair which you have found beneficial. I approached my appointment as the Ruth Wynn Woodward Professor of the Endowed Chair in Women's Studies with anticipation, excitement, and many plans. Although all of my goals for the year have not been realized, that has been the result of being unrealistic as to how much could be achieved in a twelve month period. My activities included the teaching of one course in the Spring Semester on "Women, Power, and Public Policy". 'Phis was a second level course which as attended by students who had had previous courses in Women's Studies. It attempted to show the link between women's concerns and issues and the development of public policy and legislation in response to these concerns. During that time I also taught one course on "Women and Human Services" at the University of Victoria School of Social Work. This course, which was desi<jned by me, introduced feminist concepts and feminist analysis into the social work curriculum. The outreach mandate of the Chair was discharged by giving a number of speeches to community groups, community colleges, and various professional organizations. During the Summer and Spring Semesters I attended a women's conference in the Soviet Union and participated in a National Film Board production on the Feminization of Poverty. I also spoke at a Women and Politics Conference in New Brunswick, a debate at the Annual Convention of the Canadian Bar Association in ottawa, the United Nations Conference on Homelessness in Vancouver. the Legal Education and Advocacy Group in Edmonton as well as a class in Political Science and one in Gerontology at SFU. A complete list of speeches up to November 25, 1987 is attached. Fall has proven to be incredibly hectic. I am presently teaching a course on "Canadian Women to the present" at SFU while preparing two TV programs for the Knowledge Network on "Women and Politics" and developing a seminar for Women Politicians to take place in February I continue to speak to groups in B.C. as well as in Newfoundland, Toronto, ottawa, Winnipeg and Alberta. I delivered a major address to the Forum on Post-Secondary Education in Saskatoon in October and hosted some pro<jrams on Women and Politics for TV Ontario.

2 -.. Throughout the year I still found time to do reading and research on two topics - "the use of computers in delivery of human services" and "the implication of the Meech Lake Accord on immigrants and immigration policies of the provinces". I have applied for a Bora Laskin Human Rights Fellowship to continue my research in the latter area. This has been an exhilarating if exhausting year for me. I have re-discovered a love for teaching and have particularly been enriched by my contact with the students.
