The NGOs and UNICEF stated a meeting had taken place and a draft document had been created with awareness messages. This will be circulated for feedback from GBV WG. Criteria for individual support Case Management Group. Criteria for support livelihood has been drafted. Guidance on contingency plan from Nairobi still pending. We are, however, hoping to do a session after Ramadan to come up with a contingency plan for fire out breaks at least. Case management group to share the total figures of GBV incidents that have been supported and identify vulnerable settlements for targeted efforts. Still pending Advocacy for livelihood activities and more food aid. WFP has been contacted, but still nothing concrete. This work will continue. 4Ws. Have received it from some of you. The NGO states that they are willing to organize a session for members of the GBV WG based on a training conducted by OCHA last month. FGM forum has been created and it was chaired by the NGO. Awareness messages to be circulated by chairs to WG for feedback. Comments should be sent back by August 16. Based on feedback the four organizations will finalize messages and present them during the next meeting. Criteria for individual support to be circulated to WG within 2 days. Guidance on contingency planning from GBV WG in Nairobi is still pending. UNICEF and the NGO to conduct a short contingency planning session focusing particularly on fire outbreaks before the next GBV WG meeting. The CMG to provide total figures for reported cases (and identify where most incidents take place). To be presented in the next GBV WG meeting Chairs to follow up with WFP on how to link up GBV and livelihood activities. Will report back during the next GBV WG meeting. The NGO to organize a 4W session before the next GBV WG meeting.

3 Update from Case Management Group and FGM forum GBVIMS AND Information Sharing Protocol Case Management Group The case management group reported that there had been a high number of domestic violence cases and GBV incidents in Bulo Mings, regardless of the fact that there were no total figures shared with the meeting. It has been also raised that Bulo Mings and Bulo-elay was risk place during 2011 but the cause was not clear. The meeting has agreed to explore more about the type of incidents, cause and mitigation strategies. FGM Forum The FGM forum is currently chaired by the NGO and recently they had their meeting for the first time and discussed the possibility of strengthening their collaboration in reducing FGM practices in the areas of their coverage, and the following are the outcome of their recent meeting ; The FGM/FGC have elected the NGO as their chair and the NGO as their co chair Have monthly meetings Documents FGM cases Share information Expand forum membership to more religious people and other interested civil society organizations Advocate for more capacity for forum members Organize awareness campaigns and produce IEC materials One of The FGM forum members has introduced the forum with a new project which they want to implement very soon and the forum members have contributed to the design of the project and this is going to be an opportunity for the forum to have starting point for seeking more funds to their campaign against FGM practices across the region. FGM is widely practiced in Somalia and it is seen by those involved as cultural value that every women should undergo, through mass awareness has been done to change the public opinion/attitude towards the practice for more than two decades, the practice still goes undocumented and requires constant and coordinated effort to make sure zero tolerance on FGM. the NGOs are now using the GBVIMS to record incidents of GBV. The information sharing protocol has nevertheless not yet been signed. In the coming weeks work will therefore be done to ensure that the GBVIMS information sharing protocol is completed and signed. The members of the GBV WG will also need to sign this document if they are to receive monthly updates based on the GBVIMS. The case management group will explore this issue further more the issue and will present solid information in the next meeting. GBV chair to circulate minutes from the first FGM forum meeting to the GBV WG the NGO to organize another FGM forum meeting before the next GBV WG meeting. UNICEF to organize a meeting on Thursday August 9 with data gathering agencies to finalize GBVIMS information sharing protocol. the NGO to facilitate a short SOMALI GBVIMS training (Q&A) in early September.

4 SOP (the Standard Operating Procedures Annual Workplan Review Reporting to Protection Cluster BI Annual donar meeting will in puts for Nairobi WG AOB Assessments the NGO suggested that they could facilitate a short half day training for the organizations using the GBVIMS in Somalia (particularly focusing on the incident recorder and other questions/challenges that may come up). Most organizations have provided feedback on the Standard Operating Procedures. Now that this has been done, an updated version will be shared and we are planning to do another workshop on the SOP immediately after Ramadan is over. The annual work plan which was initially drafted by the NGO and other member agencies demands to be reviewed and the member organizations have agreed to meet on Monday August 13 in the UNICEF conference room. A communication to this will as well be made through the by Sven. It was agreed that the GBV WG and its members need to try to document the work that is being conducted in a better and more standardized way. A new reporting formatted was presented and the GBV WG members agreed to fill this out on a monthly basis. It is relatively easy to fill this new form out and it should not take the organizations. Members will be expected to complete the form for activities in July. This first report is a practice one and Sven will be available to provide support if needed. Participants were divided into groups; discussions were raised on funding gaps regarding prevention and response of GBV. Top 3 to be raised at Nairobi level. - Lighting mainly moveable lighting ( Solar lamps and solar torches), - Support/capacity building to law enforcement actors and institutions - Safe house Other issues that came up - Awareness raising on domestic violence - School curriculum should also include GBV issues - Income generating activities - Strengthen GBV Committees - Train leaders and local elders - Outreach - Women and children s desks in police stations the NGOs to complete feedback on SOP within 1 week. UNICEF to share updated SOP with WG within 1 week. SOP workshop to take place on August 22 or 23. All members of the GBV WG are expected to attend the AWP review meeting on Monday August 13 from 9 to 11 in the UNICEF conference room. UNICEF to circulate reporting format immediately after meeting. Members to fill it in and report on activities from July. UNICEF will share with Nairobi WG Chair the outcome of the discussion. UNICEF to follow up with UNDP where they stand on the issue of Women and children desks in Bossaso.

5 UNHCR requested that if GBV assessments are to be conducted to make sure that participants in the assessment team come from different organizations. In the past this has not been done, leading to a lot of follow up and verification of assessments. Change in Role of Secretariat The WG secretariat who was represented by a local NGO has resigned after joining international organizations and requested that local NGO appoint someone for his replacement. The GBV working group members have appointed the NGO to run the secretariat position for the GBV from now on. The GBV working groups have appreciated the NGO for his contribution to the GBV working group and thank the NGO for their support. We now welcome the NGO to this important role.
