1 UAW Women s Department Papers, (Predominantly ) 36 linear feet 36 storage boxes Accession # 446 OCLC # DALNET # The UAW Women s Department developed out of the UAW Women s Bureau, a division of the union s War Policy Department in the 1940s. The Women s Department was formally established at the union s 15th Constitutional Convention in The Women s Department addressed the specific problems that women faced in the workplace: equal pay, ending discrimination in hiring, promotion and training of women, as well as equal seniority protection. Through conferences, legislation, education, women s auxiliaries and committees, the UAW Women s Department sought to improve working conditions for women. The papers of the UAW Women s Department collection consist of correspondence, minutes and other meeting material, conference material, clippings, publications, and reports.
