1 Frequently Asked Questions: Riverview Rehabilitation Center WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED? Riverview Rehabilitation Center provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary and functionally based treatment program that helps our patients recover and return to their optimal level of function. The acute inpatient rehabilitation program is led by your Physiatrist who directs your clinical team to provide 24 hour nursing services, 24 hour physician medical oversight, and therapy services at a minimum of 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. If medically indicated, you will participate in a modified therapy program. Your treatment program is tailored to your individual needs and consists of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, recreation therapy, and a Prosthetist/Orthotist as needed. WHAT KIND OF PATIENTS ARE ADMITTED TO RIVERVIEW REHABILITATION CENTER? Riverview Rehabilitation Center admits patients based on their medical and functional needs. The admissions liaisons perform screenings and review each patient with the Physiatrist team to determine need for an acute rehabilitation program. Riverview Rehabilitation Center offers: general medical rehabilitation, stroke/neurologic rehabilitation, amputee rehabilitation, spinal cord rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, as well as orthopedic rehabilitation. The center accepts persons with traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord dysfunction including: C5 ASIA A (complete), or levels below, or any ASIA D levels who do not require a high level of respiratory support or necessitate ventilator support. The center does not admit pediatric patients, ventilator dependent patients, coma patients, patients who require telemetry monitoring, or those patients who are lacking the capacity to participate in the acute rehabilitation program who are both confused & agitated, and who require a closed unit for safety. Annual Patient Data: In 2018, Riverview Rehabilitation Center admitted 721 patients. The average age of the patient was 73.6 years of age and 52.1% of patients were female. The top admitting diagnosis at 27% was for stroke recovery. 75% of Riverview patients were discharged to the community. The average length of stay was 12.2 days.

The average age of the stroke patient was 74.6 years of age and 52.4% of stroke patients were female. 68% of stroke patients were discharged to the community with an average length of stay of 13.8 days. 4 STROKE AGE DISTRIBUTION % % % % HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT TO STAY AT RIVERVIEW REHABILITATION CENTER? In 2018, the average length of stay for inpatient rehabilitation was 12.2 days. However, individual patient length of stay is dependent on medical and functional needs, and progress towards rehabilitation goals. HOW MUCH THERAPY WILL I RECEIVE? Riverview Rehabilitation Center s patients are scheduled for a minimum of 3 hours of therapy per day for 5 days. However, if medical necessary, a modified program may be scheduled for 900 minutes of therapy over the course of 7 days. WHAT OTHER SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO PATIENTS? Specific arrangements are made with Riverview Medical Center to ensure the following services are available to our patients including but not limited to Pharmacy, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Dietician/Nutritional Support, Chaplin Services, Respiratory Therapy and wound Care as needed per patients plan of care. WHAT CAN I BE EXPECTED TO DO FOR MYSELF WHEN I LEAVE THE REHABILITATION CENTER? All patients are evaluated to see how much help they need to do functional activities (like walking, moving from lying down to sitting up, getting dressed, etc.) when they arrive and leave the rehabilitation center. The team will work with you to optimize your functional outcomes and meet your goals to reentry into your home and community. Each person s goals and activities are unique and will require different levels of support or equipment. Therefore prior to you leaving the rehabilitation center, your team will work with you and your family to feel comfortable and confident with your transition.

5 Based on evaluation of the patient s functional status for patients discharged in 2018, the average rehabilitation patient was able to the following: Self Care: Mobility: Transfers: On admission, most patients required moderate assistance, or required help from staff about 50% of the time; on discharge the average patient needed help less than 25% of time. When a patient is discharged from the Riverview Rehabilitation Center, they receive a telephone call with a satisfaction survey to provide feedback of their experience. The rehabilitation center measures the likelihood that its patients would recommend Riverview Rehabilitation Center to their friends and colleagues. The score is calculated by measuring the number of patients surveyed that rated us a 9 or 10 in a 10 point scale, with 10 being the top score. In 2018, 68.3% of our patients rated us as a 9 or 10 on this measure. A score between 50-70% indicates an excellent level of performance on national benchmarks.
