It has now brought you to the page that will begin the Genetics track, now click on: View in Frames. There are 7 tracks that you will click on and answer the following questions to. Let s Begin! 1. You Look Like click on site (1) and begin to read: You Inherited Your Parents Genes! I. Can you figure out a family's genotypes by knowing their phenotypes? Click on the Genetic Puzzle, read and answer the following questions. If Mary has attached lobes, what must her genotype be? If both Mary s parents have free hanging earlobes, but they had a daughter who has attached lobes, what must their genotypes be? What are the possible genotypes for Fred, Mary s brother? Is it possible to identify his exact genotype? Why or why not? (Make sure you draw and show the punnett square!) 2. Genetics Practice Problems click on (2) and begin to read and answer the questions online. Then answer the questions below. What is the man s genotype? What are the genotypes of the children? If blue is recessive, what must the woman s genotype be? If that s her genotype, what kind(s) of gametes (eggs) can she produce? If the man has brown eyes, but has a blue- eyed child what must his genotype be? If the man has brown eyes, but has a blue- eyed child what must his genotype be? If that s his genotype, what kind(s) of gametes (sperm) can he produce? If they have children:
2 Testcross: Dogs and Breeding A deaf female is genotype dd. What kind(s) of gametes (eggs) can she produce? If the hearing male is DD, what kind(s) of gametes (sperm) can he produce? If he is Dd, what kind(s) of gametes can he produce? If he is DD If he is Dd Put the female gametes in the correct locations. Put the male gametes in the correct locations. Put the genotypes of the offspring in the correct locations. If two hearing dogs were both Dd, what kind(s) of gametes (eggs/sperm) could each produce? If they are bred with each other: Make sure that you place everyone in the right location as stated in the box above. Incomplete Dominance A man and woman living in a tropical area where malaria is prevalent and health care is not accessible have seven children. The genotypes of these children are ss, Ss, SS, ss, Ss, Ss, and SS. What must the genotype of both parents be? If that s their genotype, what kind(s) of gametes (eggs/sperm) can each produce? To figure out what their children would be:

Is there a single genetic disease that is closely associated with your ethnicity? If so what is it and is there more than one? What are the carrier rates of common diseases for your ethnicity? Note: list the disease and it carrier rate. Is there any historical background in how your ethnicity became subjected to a genetic disease?

Note: also look for information in: Inheritance and Disease to assist you in your understanding. Click on Inheritance and Disease: You receive two copies of every gene, who do you receive them from?
