RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Principal Investigator,, Kicking the Habit: Recovering from Addiction across Social Divides Present Tasks include conducting long-term ethnographic observations of the addiction recovery process in two local drug rehabilitation centers; scheduling and conducting in-depth interviews with approximately 80 men participating in recovery and 15 program staff members; analyzing field notes and interview transcripts; writing a dissertation manuscript and preparing research articles; preparing reports and research briefs for partner organizations. Co-Investigator (with Primary Investigator Teresa Gowan),, Perspectives on Addiction, Responsibilities included conducting long-term ethnographic observations in selected drug treatment facilities; scheduling and conducting in-depth interviews with treatment participants and staff; analyzing qualitative data in Atlas TI; preparing scholarly research articles; drafting reports and research briefs for partner organizations; project management activities including: coordinating research objectives across multiple sites; training and supervising undergraduate assistants in research methodology, transcription, Atlas TI and human subjects protocols. Housing First Program, Tasks included planning and conducting a mixed methods evaluation of a Housing First program designed to reduce chronic homelessness for individuals with histories of heavy involvement in county correctional and shelter systems; conducing a quantitative analysis of the effect of program participation on shelter use and criminal recidivism; scheduling and conducting 40 in-depth interviews with participants about their transition to stable housing; preparing research briefs, presentations, and a final report for partner community organizations.
