1 Sport Premium Overview Primary School s Vision Statement: Broadening Horizons for All Aspire to be the best that they can be Respect and celebrate diversity and individuality Are effective and confident communicators Love learning and live life to the full At Wold Academy we believe PE & Sport plays an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people s lives for the better. We have welcomed the Government s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for 2 years to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in our school. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, improving the health and wellbeing of our students, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people. Sport Premium Grant Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census. All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of 8,000 plus a premium of 5 per pupil. Smaller schools will receive 500 per pupil. 2 What does the Sport Premium mean for my School? Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this (DfE June 2013). Evidencing the Impact of the School Sport Premium The following guidelines outline what the Ofsted Inspectors will be looking for upon their visits. For every Action that you as a school offer your children, you must ensure that you can evidence it against the criteria below. Please use the numbers below as a key in the requirement achieved column. Inspectors have been asked to consider the impact of the new primary school sport funding on pupils lifestyles and physical well-being by taking into account of the following factors: 1. Increase participation rates in such activities as games, dance, gymnastics, swimming and athletics; 2. Increase knowledge of teachers within the subject area through CPD, team teaching and access to resources. 3. Increase, amount and success in competitive school sports both inter and intra school; 4. More inclusive physical education curriculum; 5. Growth in the range of provisional and alternative sporting activities (new sports); 6. Improved partnership working on physical education with other schools and other local partners (School Sport Associations, NGB s, County Sports Partnerships, clubs etc); 7. Linked with another subject which contribute to pupils overall achievement and their greater social, spiritual, moral and cultural skills; 8. Greater awareness amongst pupils around health and wellbeing e.g. dangers of obesity, smoking and other such activities that undermine pupils health. 9. Improved physical education lesson planning and pupil assessment. At Wold Academy we have planned to spend the sport premium funding on the following in order to achieve our vision for PE and sport.
3 Action Description Total cost Expected, measurable outcome and timescale Team teach gymnastics with year 4 (autumn term) After school clubs: Gymnastics key stage 1/2 Football Rugby Judo Tennis Dance 6 weeks of team teaching, 2 hour sessions 25 per hour. 5 hours of G&T after school (1xweek over 5 weeks) 25 per hour Spring term ks1 gymnastics after school club 8 weeks (1 hour x week) 450 Autumn Term PE lessons and G&T club. Spring Term gymnastics 200 Total 650 To develop mastery in a range of gymnastic activities across the school, whilst enabling individuals to follow their own interests and love of sport. Gymnastics: 20 students attending each club on a weekly basis from October 2015 All clubs regularly run mini competitions/assessments and are monitored by Wold staff throughout. Children will be offered the chance to take part in an additional inter-school free of charge competition programme. (Some we have to charge for as external agencies are involved). Time-wise, improvements should be measurable within that year group shortterm, over a three year cycle it should be evident throughout KS2 over those three years/ Area of evidence (1 9) 1,2,3,5,9 Transport to and from competitions and fixtures Inter-school sports DRET Winter Cup DRET Summer Cup Competitions and fixtures at other schools Transport to and from competitions and fixtures across the year. In particular DRET Winter and Summer cup Allows all children the opportunity to access extra-curricular sports and competitions away from school without having the issue of not being able to have their own travel arrangements. 1,3,4,6
4 Supply teachers to cover staff CPD training and competition cover Allows staff to be released to attend CPD training that is relevant to the development of PE. Releases staff to attend events and competitions On-going throughout the year, it allows staff the opportunity to be released when cover in school is not available. 1,2,3,9 Change4life healthy lifestyle day VIP athlete Olympian Wold Festival Change4Life team to run sessions with classes. Healthy lifestyle day, providing children with fruit/smoothies and resources to promote a healthy lifestyle day Linked into the Change4Life healthy lifestyle day, athlete to visit to speak to staff and children about the importance of a healthy lifestyle when participating in sport and how it has an impact on performance Paralympian to visit Wold to deliver assemblies to both key stages, discussing what it takes to be successful in sport. Class discussions and question and answer sessions. Inter house sport to encourage participation across a range of sports and activities throughout the whole school. 200 Deeper understanding of what makes a healthy lifestyle and it s like with sport. To enable the children to develop their own health and fitness programmes. This will be overseen by an adult once after school per week. With the hope this will develop to children actually running their own clubs throughout KS2 or assisting and leading with staff. This should be evident in helping some of the play leader s issues with time, space and sheer number of children.)this could also be linked to the school council to help continue the healthy lifestyle theme throughout the whole school. 300 Children to gain deeper understanding of the health and wellbeing side to PE and encouraged to participate more in extracurricular activities. 300 Staff and children to gain an insight into how sport can progress from PE at school. 200 To develop skills through practising for the day. 5 Sports Day A wide range of voluntary CPD opportunities for all staff (Including the children) to include: Dance Gymnastics PE co-ordinator roles Hull FC rugby training Dance tutoring Zulu Warriors Two full days of sport for parents to attend. Key stage one and key stage two We take every opportunity to encourage staff to develop skills through a range of CPD training to increase confidence in their delivery of different PE lessons. In conjunction with Y4 Africa topic, the Zulus visit the school to develop cross-curricular links through music and dance. sports. Only piloted in Summer 2015, this had a tremendous effect on the staff and children of Wold Academy and Ainthorpe and the progress amongst all the children was clear through improved skills and a new-found enthusiasm for teamwork and competition. It will done in phases across 3 days. 200 To develop skills through practising for the day. To learn to enjoy and handle competition and teamwork. To develop home/school relations through inviting parents and family. This also reinforces a whole school community and sense of pride through the newly appointed house colours and resulting trophies. 500 To build confidence across all the staff to lead to improved understanding of sports that may be seen as more difficult to deliver. This can be linked into the curriculum through PE days such as the Wold Festival. Long-term this should help develop mastery in a much bigger range of activities across the school, improvements should become evident over time as more staff take up these opportunities 850 To develop cross-curricular links through music and dance. Dance was one of the areas highlighted by staff and children that needed developing. The year 4s will spend time learning African dances which will be performed to the parents after school. Through two assemblies KS1 & 2 and some parents will have a chance to take part in 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9 2,3,4,5,6,9 1,2,4,7,9

Order of equipment which replaces damaged or worn equipment. This will be used in PE to help children strengthen their legs by climbing up and down stairs To be used in the school gymnastics club and with KS1 to help develop rotation and encourage children to forward roll. To be used in gymnastics lessons to help children learn to take weight on hands and practise their safe lands when jumping from height. To be used for football, netball and rugby sessions to help develop agility in children s movement. This equipment will provide challenge activities for children to develop balance, co-ordination and strength to enable them to improve their physical literacy for day to day life and sport. To be used in lessons and football competitions, to help develop the sport in the school. taster sessions of tribal dances (and music) and learn about another culture Create space and allow easy access to all resources for staff which are clearly labelled to ensure all equipment is used to its full potential Improve children s leg strength to help them in day to day life and a sporting context. All children by the end of KS2 to be able to perform the following rolls: Side roll Forwards roll All children to be able to develop safe landing and taking weight on their hands from using the cuboid, which will in turn have a positive impact on children in gymnastics. Children to have improved agility which will help in their day to day movements, along with improving their ability to move in competitive sport. Children to have improved physical literacy at the end of KS1 by using the assault course, enabling them to have improved movement skills The school will be able to host football fixtures using the new goals. 1,2,5 3,4 3
7 Maudesport (p228 goal- 7v Carriage for the above equipment Playground line markings Shelving units The line markings will be used during PE lessons to help zone the playground and give exciting challenges for the children to take part in during lessons and breaks Extra storage for a new academies sports cupboard in order to create space in the store cupboard and keep equipment organised. 100 Total 10, Playground markings used to zone the playground for different activities to take place during break and lunchtime, enabling children to improve their physical literacy through play. 794 Equipment to be kept in a good condition resulting in equipment not being damaged or lost. 3,4 2,9
