3 Child Well-Being Survey in Urban s of Bangladesh Key Results November, 2016 Government of the People s Republic of Bangladesh Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) Statistics and Informatics (SID) Ministry of Planning United Nations Children s Fund

4 The Child Well-Being Survey 2016 (CWS 2016) was conducted to measure the level of child well-being in urban areas of Bangladesh in terms of nutrition, health, education, protection and access to water and sanitation. As consequence of rapid urbanization, urban cities are experiencing extreme pressure on housing, growth of slums and pressure on urban services. It is known that one-third of the City Corporations population lives in slums, which are areas of dense concentration of people and of conditions that affect health negatively. It is, therefore, of a great concern to know the situation of urban children and their mothers, especially those living in slums. To understand the situation of children and women in urban context Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) with support from UNICEF, commissioned this CWS Associates for Community and Population Research (ACPR) implemented the survey. Results presented in this report are not expected to change and are considered final unless otherwise mentioned. For electronic copy of the report please go to bbs.gov.bd and unicef.org/bangladesh.
