The Stabilized Nitrogen Difference John Meyer Regional Manager Agrotain International
OBJECTIVES Introduce Agrotain International Review the Nitrogen Cycle Discuss the Stabilized Nitrogen Difference Review UMAXX and UFLEXX Technology University Trials
Who is AGROTAIN International? We are the manufacturer of UMAXX and UFLEXX fertilizer. The company was formed in July 2000 following the acquisition of the Agrotain technology from IMC by Lange-Stegmann. Serves the international urea market related to the agricultural, specialty, and turf markets.
Nitrogen Efficiency Products for the Turf Markets
Nitrogen Options
Confused? I am! Which one works best? Which one gives me the best value? Which one gives me the best color? Which one gives me the longest feed? Which one gives me the most flexibility? Which one should I use??
Volatilization NH 3 Loss Soils 101 The Simplified Nitrogen Cycle Denitrification N 2 Loss Ammonia NH 3 (Plant Uptake) Ammonium NH 4 + (Plant Uptake) Nitrate NO 3 - Immobilization NH 4+ /NO 3- Loss Mineralization Nitrite NO 2 - Leaching NO 3- Loss
What happens to the Nitrogen after it is applied? Plant Uptake 40-70% NH 3 Volatilization Urea 0-30% Immobilization NH 4+ /NO % Leaching NO % Denitrification N 2 / N 2 O 5-35%
Stabilized Nitrogen
Stabilized Nitrogen Product Category is Stabilized Nitrogen Stabilized Nitrogen is DIFFERENT than all those other fertilizers NOT a coated product NOT a complex chain product Uses NATURAL soil chemistry properties to extend nitrogen availability IMPROVED NITROGEN EFFICIENCY
What is in Stabilized Nitrogen? A Urea Based Fertilizer with TWO different inhibitors Agrotain Urease Inhibitor That Stops Volatility Loss For Up To 14 Days Dicyandiamide Nitrification Inhibitor That Maintains Nitrogen Longer As Ammoniacal Nitrogen

The Role of Agrotain (NBPT) N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide, or (NBPT), is responsible for inhibiting the urease enzyme from attacking the urea molecule and causing volatilization
Ammonia Volatilization for Urea With/Without Agrotain
Volatility Test Note the presence of ammonia in the indicator tubes on day 10 and 14.
Dicyandiamide (DCD)
Dicyandiamide NH H 2 N-C-NH-CN Dicyandiamide is 66% Nitrogen
The Role of Dicyandiamide Slows the conversion of NH 4+ to NO 2-. The DCD ties up the enzyme sites of the Nitrosomonas bacteria. The conversion process of ammonical (NH 4+ ) nitrogen to nitrite (NO 2- ) nitrogen is greatly slowed. As the DCD runs it course the Nitrosomonas bacteria returns to normal.
The Nitrogen Cycle Shows Just How Stabilized Nitrogen TM Works
Stabilized Nitrogen Cycle Volatilization NH 3 Loss Dicyandiamide (DCD) Nitrification inhibitor keeps nitrogen in the ammoniacal form Denitrification N 2 Loss Ammonia NH 3 NBPT Urease Inhibitor stops hydrolysis of urea for up to 2 weeks (Plant Uptake) Ammonium NH 4 + Nitrite NO 2 - (Plant Uptake) Nitrate NO 3 - Leaching NO 3- Loss

Uniform Granular Urea Particle Stabilized with NBPT and Dicyandiamide Typically Responds for weeks Available in Two Particle Sizes Standard SGN 237 for general use Mini SGN 150 for close cut turf Primarily used for Golf Turf
NEW! From AGROTAIN International FOR UMAXX Packaged For Soluble Application Prepared To Minimize Insoluble Contaminants Fill And Application Rate Recommendations Higher Nitrogen Analysis

Edina Country Club

Same Volatility Protection as in UMAXX Less DCD - giving an intermediate response (6-8 weeks) Available in Standard (SGN 237) and Mini (SGN 150) size Well suited for PLC, Landscape, Retail
Flexibility Between Markets Lawn Care Retail Landscape General Turf Golf Sod Production Hydro Seeding Flexibility in Use Nitrogen Component in Blends Soluble Fertilizer Programs

The Difference Between and Is in the level of Dicyandiamide (nitrification inhibitor). The higher level in UMAXX keeps it in the ammoniacal form for approximately weeks. UFLEXX stays for 6-8 weeks.
