2 BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR Model 790IT 1. Place the monitor on a table where you are able to sit comfortably in a chair with your left (or non-dominant) arm resting on a flat surface (table) so the center of your upper arm is at the same height as your heart. It is best to leave the monitor in one place. 2. Sit in a chair that has a back and allow your feet to rest flat on the floor. 3. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm. 4. The cuff should be placed on your bear arm. Slide your left (or non-dominant) arm into the cuff, placing the bottom of the cuff ½ above the bend in the elbow with the palm facing upward. Align the blue strip (on the arm cuff) along the line of your middle finger. The air tube should run down the inside of your arm. 5. Wrap the cuff firmly in place around your arm using the cloth strip. 6. Relax, keep your feet flat on the floor, stop talking and take several deep breaths. 7. Before taking a measurement make sure the user ID tab is placed on A. Press the START/STOP button and do not talk as the cuff automatically inflates to the correct level to measure your blood pressure and pulse. Do NOT use a cell phone while using the device. 8. It is normal for the cuff to feel very tight. Do not move your arm until the entire measurement is complete. 9. The cuff will then automatically deflate and your measurement will be displayed. Write you s in the form provided. Press the START/STOP button to turn the monitor off. Home BP Protocol Version 3/12/14 2
3 Important Reminders: BP measurements should be taken regularly at approximately the same time each day. Please do not to eat, smoke, chew gum, ingest caffeine (i.e. coffee, tea, soda or chocolate) or do strenuous exercise 30 minutes prior to taking BP measurement. When taking a measurement, please sit in a chair at a table with your feet flat on the floor. Relax without talking or moving for 5 minutes before starting the measurement. To stop a measurement, push the START button on the BP monitor. This will stop inflation and will rapidly deflate the monitor cuff. If you need to take another measurement, please make sure the cuff is completely deflated before doing so. Please do not attempt to alter devices or take batteries out unless they need to be replaced. Please do not use cell phones when the monitor is in use. Please make sure to record all blood pressure values on the log sheets provided and have these available when the pharmacist calls you. Home BP Protocol Version 3/12/14 3
