Elevvo Medical Neurotechnology for rehabilitation in mental pathology with cognitive deterioration and oriented for health professionals. The technology is designed to generate individualized neuroplastic changes, which optimize the functioning of brain areas related to cognitive performance. Elevvo is an intervention and evaluation tool, since it includes programs for cognitive improvement with individual and adaptative training interventions and neurocognitive and neurophysiological evaluations to monitor the progress and follow-up. Elevvo Medical is currently being applied to approach cognitive deterioration in patients with depressive disorders, attention deficit disorders and hyperactivity and other mental disorders that lead to cognitive deficits or decline.
Which cognitive functions does Elevvo Medical enhance? In the scientific studies carried out, Elevvo has proven to be effective in enhancing the following cognitive functions: Working memory: Capacity of temporarily holding information available for processing and manipulate it. Processing speed: Capacity that establishes the relationship between cognitive execution and elapsed time. Sustained attention: Capacity of maintaining focused attention and remain vigilant to specific stimuli during long periods of time. Main characteristics Effectiveness Cognitive enhancement between 10% and 30% in all the studies conducted to date. Technical-scientific rigorousness Patented, developed and validated following rigorous scientific and technological standards. Simplicity and comfort Easy to use by professionals with simple interventions for the users. Comfortable and with portable design to carry out sessions anywhere. Individualization of interventions Based on advanced neurotechnology that adapts individually to the physiology, state, and evolution of brain activity of each user throughout training sessions. Integral programs They include the cognitive training, the pre/post neurocognitive and neurophysiological evaluations, and a generator of result report.
Where do I apply it? Neurotechnology to improve working memory, sustained attention, and processing speed in patients with mental disorders. Depresive Disorders The use of Elevvo in patients with depressive disorders can be oriented towards the treatment of some nuclear symptoms such as the cognitive deterioration that affects attention, memory and other executive functions. ADHD The use of Elevvo in children with ADHD is directed to improve deficits in executive functions, working memory and attention, and also to control and reduce impulsive responses. Other patologies The use of Elevvo can be oriented to the enhancement of deteriorated cognitive capacities as a consequence of a variety of pathologies and mental disorders.
What does Elevvo Medical include? Elevvo Medical includes hardware technology for the recording of brain signals, software to carry out the sessions comfortably, pre-defined Intervention and Follow-up Programs, and result Reports for user followup. Hardware Elevvo Medical equipment is a portable electroencephalogram (EEG) system for the recording of brain activity. It is a mobile and wireless equipment with sensors that are slightly moistened with water. Set-up time is 4.5 minutes, on average. Base software Elevvo software enables the management of users, execution of Intervention and Follow-up Programs, and processing result Reports. Programs The Elevvo Medical Programs include neurophysiological and neurocognitive Evaluations, and automated Training Sessions. Reports The Elevvo Reports are created automatically and enable the objective evaluation of the results obtained in the Intervention, both at neurocognitive and neurophysiological levels.
How is Elevvo Medical used? The Intervention Programs are specific to each segment of the population and consist of Evaluation Sessions, Intervention Sessions and the generation of the Final Report: Evaluation Sessions: Two sessions of pre/ post evaluation with cognitive tests and neurophysiological records. Elevvo is a technology of cognitive intervention and evaluation of progress, so it is made up of Intervention and Follow-up Programs. Intervention Sessions: Between ten and twenty training sessions with a frequency of two or three sessions per week and consist of four stages. The Follow-up Programs are specific for each user according to the results obtained in the Intervention Program. In these Programs, cognitive tests and neurophysiological records were performed. Evaluation Sessions The Evaluation Sessions last 40 minutes and consist of two stages: 1. Cognitive tests Adaptation of standardized tests and cognitive tasks commonly used in research that evaluate cognitive functions such as working memory, processing speed, sustained attention, and attention variations. 2. Neurophysiological recordings EEG recordings to measure the tonic and phasic brain activity (e.g., spontaneous and evoked potentials, and time-frequency maps).
Intervention Sessions The Intervention Sessions consist of four stages: 1. Set-up The software assists the professional during the placement of the EEG equipment system by indicating when each sensor is correctly positioned. The average set-up time is 4.5 minutes. 2. Calibration The participant performs a few simple mental tasks while recording their brain activity. With this information, the technology adapts the intervention to the physiology, dynamics and brain activity levels of the participant during the session. The calibration also takes into account the reference population and the evolution of the participant during the Training Sessions. The average time of this stage is 6 minutes. 3. Execution The participant makes several repetitions of a simple exercise whose difficulty is determined by the calibration. To perform the exercise correctly, the user has to activate certain brain patterns to induce the neuroplastic changes. The average time of this stage is 30 minutes. 4. Report At the end of each Training Session a Report is generated summarizing the results of the session.
What results can be obtained with Elevvo Medical? The scientific studies in which Elevvo Medical has demonstrated its effectiveness have been carried out in populations with Major Depressive Disorders (controlled study), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD (exploratory study). Additionally, the scientific team of Elevvo has started scientific validations for Fibromyalgia and Mild Dementia. Elevvo Medical can be used as a complement to traditional treatments to specifically address cognitive functions in mental disorders such as Major Depression or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Taking as a reference the most recent with a program of eight sessions in major depression patients (Escolano, C., 2014), it was observed a 25% average and significant increase in the individualized alpha rhythms (brain processes related to cognitive functions). Also, a 25% and 15% significant enhancement in variables measuring working memory and processing speed, respectively. The science behind Elevvo Elevvo is based on a six years of research and development by Bitbrain in collaboration with the University of Zaragoza, the Aragon Institute of Health Science and other international entities. You can check the following scientific articles which show the enhancement produced by Elevvo. Escolano, C., Navarro-Gil, M., Garcia-Campayo, J., Congedo, M., De Ridder, D., Minguez, J. (2014a).
