It is way too early to draw conclusions, but so many folks showed an interest that I am sharing this with all. Jeff will be back in town on Nov. 30 and following up on these tests. All who are interested can join in at 8:30 AM at Hatcher Garden. He is also staying over for breakfast with us on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Bojangles. We'll be the enjoying biscuits at 7 AM and he will report his findings to the Trees Board and all attendees at 7:30 AM. I hope you will participate. Jeff, thanks for your feedback below.. All Mimosas have lost some leaves. All that I saw yesterday and today still have a few leaves. newt Newt, Very helpful. Thanks! It would also be helpful to note the tag number on the tree. I am still catching up on backlog of from last week, but I will turn to getting you the map and data soon. 2) ToH at Hatcher: Drooping looks like an effect. On untreated ToH, senescent leaves are yellow but still perky. Thus, I would conclude that drooping indicates an effect of LT. 3) Chinese parasol: same comments as ToH. If untreated nearby CP trees are not yellow or drooping, then we can conclude that the drooping is from LT. 4) ToH at gas station: That one is a tough call because we know ToH is well into senescence now. But going from leafed to bare in a week would be extremely fast for most trees. Thus, I would tentatively conclude that it is LT. 5) Highway mimosa: Wow, now that is dramatic! Are other mimosas bare yet? Given that I saw the treated Rail Trail mimosas curl in a day, suggests that this is LT, unless nearby untreated mimosas are bare. If treated Rail Trail mimosas have dropped like that, then I would say it is definitely LT. 6) Kudzu: I had a really hard time discerning the kudzu vines from each other. Also, I noticed a lot of vines in the trees had been previously cut or damaged by the sewer crew. Regarding cutting the vines to look at wood, my guess is that is it very early to see a change in color of the wood. Also, we did many different treatments in that patch. I would need the tag number to know if the one you cut was a control vine or a treated vine. 7.1) Bradford pear, I'm not entirely surprised. Recall that is when my drill died so none of those have injection. They are mostly hack and squirt, which can take longer if there is an effect at all. Also, there are controls in that group that should not display any effect. I forgot to give you some syringes with the LT bottles. If you want to try injection yourself, I'll send you some syringes if you give me an address. 7.2) Privet, I'm not surprised. Glossy buckthorn has a similarly waxy leaf that resists desiccation. Buckthorn took weeks to see drooping. 7.3) Poison ivy, I recall that it was practically leafless when I treated. I don't have much hope for poison ivy. Its oils may make it resistant to basal spray and I don't know if you want workers trying to drill and inject. Cut stump might be best, if effective. But, this is all proof-of-concept. If it worked, then we would design a tool (maybe a lance) for quick punch and inject from a distance and to minimize bending over. Yes, ok to send to your list. As usual, with the caveat that this is first signs, very early, and that we will watch for long term effect. 1 of 13 11/10/ :40 PM
