34 The Technology Project This project, partly funded by a grant from Autism Delaware, implemented innovative technology, IPod Touch, to examine the efficacy of the device to improve communication skills, leisure skills, and organizational skills.
35 Procedure Materials IPod Touch 4 th Generation Otter Box First Then Visual Schedule Mytalk mobile Various game apps
36 Procedure Participants Individuals with Autism between the ages of twenty and thirty who have limited verbal communication skills and other independent skills, living in a residential community setting with staff support. None of the participants had prior exposure to the device used in this project, IPod Touch
37 Procedure Target Behaviors Communication: independent communication/ response Schedule following: independent completion of scheduled tasks/ activities Leisure skills: independent engagement/ duration Method: A Multiple Baseline Research design was conducted to investigate the efficacy of the technology device, IPod Touch 4 th generation, to improve independent functioning of individuals with Autism.
38 Procedure Baseline Phase Participants engaged in daily routines without the IPod Touch and staff collected data on communication, schedule following, and leisure activities.
39 Procedure Interventions IPod Touch with Apps implemented: communication, visual schedule, and leisure activities. Least-to-most prompts given: to navigate and utilize the device. Data collected: communication, schedule following, and leisure activities.
