5 BLUTECH LENS COMPARISON BluTech uses a proprietary formulation offering more complete near-clear blue light protection. It is not a tint or coating, but built into the lens. When exposed to blue light, Blue Light Plus is activated to filter blue light in all three harmful areas. It is not physically possible for a clear lens to provide meaningful blue light protection against the blue light emitted by digital devices. If it s clear, there s a compromise. Instead of specifying a singular transmission percentage, which is simply an average across the spectrum, we believe it s more meaningful to provide specific data for the three zones that blue light impacts. See our bar chart below for specific transmission percentages for all three lenses in our assortment. Superior protection across the spectrum % Filtration 97% 90% 94% BluTech MAX - BPF 3 BluTech CLASSIC - BPF 2 82% BluTech ULTRA - BPF 1 58% 50% 46% 36% 31% GLARE & DIGITAL EYESTRAIN nm MACULAR CELLULAR DAMAGE nm SLEEP/WAKE CYCLE DISRUPTION nm These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. 6 BluTech Quick Reference Guide This quick reference presents the important facts about blue light and BluTech s proprietary technology in a condensed, quick-read format. Blue Light Spectrum The blue light spectrum ranges from 400nm-500nm. Sources of blue light The sun is a natural source of blue light. However, blue light is also emitted indoors by CFL & LED lights, TV & computer screens, and handheld digital devices. Blue Light s Triple Threat Blue light poses a triple threat. Three areas of impact: nm: Daily vision glare, digital eyestrain nm: Long term vision macular cellular damage nm: Disruption of sleep / wake cycle 3. Suppresses melatonin, disrupting speed to sleep and quality of sleep 2 Who is at-risk Anyone using digital devices, especially at night, as well as contact lens wearers, patients with a family history of macular degeneration, and post-cataract patients. Children are especially at risk: 1. No natural protection 2. Shorter arms, hold devices closer 3. Larger pupils 4. High device usage exposure averages 9 hours per day. 5. If contact lens wearer, blink rate is cut in half, increasing exposure BluTech s Triple Protection BluTech employs Blue Light Plus offering more complete near-clear protection against blue light. Formulation BluTech protection is infused into the lens. It s not a tint or coating and won t wear off. How it works When exposed to blue light, Blue Light Plus filters light in all three areas of impact. It acts like a higher SPF sunscreen that has been applied evenly to all exposed skin.* Is there good blue light? Not at night. According to Harvard researchers, even dim light can interfere with a person s circadian rhythm and melatonin secretion. A level of brightness of about twice that of a night light has an effect. 4 *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
