3 Congratulations to the OCN s who renewed their certification in 2011 for reaching the highest ever certification rate of 75%. Total Oncology Certified Nurses as of 6/25/12 OCN = 28,244 AOCNP = 922 AOCNS = 357 CPON = 1,713 CBCN = 707 AOCN = 1,001 CPHON = 830 Total number of active ONCC credentials: 33,774 Total number of nurses holding at least one current ONCC credential: 33,215 New in Radiation Certificate of Added Qualification Program 463 have earned the certificate of added qualification during the first and second sessions of the program. 145 are registered to complete the third session. Extended Test Windows for OCN, CPHON, CBCN Testing is available in all months except January. Quarterly registration deadlines remain in place. Reinstatement Policy Those who miss the deadline for recertification may use reinstatement up until March 31 of the following year. 76 nurses reinstated in 2012, and 65 reinstated in

4 New Initiatives: Coming Soon New Recertification Method: Independent Learning Needs Assessment (ILNA) Based on individualized requirements, related to knowledge gaps identified by the certification examination diagnostic report (first renewal) or the online assessment report (subsequent renewals) Recertification will be attained with fewer but more meaningful professional development points. The assessment is NOT a test and should be taken early in the certification cycle. It affects those who become certified or renew certification in 2012 and thereafter and will begin with 2016 renewals. To learn more, go to or call Certification in Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplantation (BMSCT) Nursing ONCC completed a role delineation study of BMSCT Nursing in A discrete body of knowledge was identified. Market research identified a sufficient number of potential candidates. ONCC Board of Directors made the decision to implement a certification program. Preliminary plans are for an examination to be administered beginning in early BMSCT Nurses: watch your for opportunities to participate in the test development process 4
