3 Fact Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, after breast, prostate and lung cancers. Over 41,200 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK. Around 268,000 people living in the UK today have been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is treatable and curable, especially if it s diagnosed early More than nine out of ten people diagnosed with stage 1 bowel cancer survive five years or more after diagnosis However this drops significantly as the disease develops

7 NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Treatment for Bowel Cancers is more likely to be effective if Bowel Cancer is detected early. The test kit/invitation is sent to all people in the UK registered with a GP aged A Faecal Occult Blood Test kit (hidden blood) Aims to detect Bowel Cancer at an early stage (in people with no symptoms).
8 Bowel Cancer Screening Kit Process People complete the test kit at home and return the kit to the sender The kit is tested for blood (in the motion) if positive then the person is called to a local clinic to see a Specialist Screening Practioner They are offered a colonoscopy If test negative recalled in 2 years People aged 75+ can request a test kit by ringing free
9 Lancashire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Facts: Covers a population of 1.3 million to date Since April 2008 May 2017: 795,600 kits been completed across Lancashire 8808 patients seen in clinics 8611 patients had a colonoscopy 784 bowel cancer's diagnosed who had no signs and symptoms at all 1009 patients identified with high risk polyps

17 Call for a Kit Clinic (CFAKC) Community/GP Engagement Officers make contact with GP Practice Community/GP Engagement Officers invite non responders to a 15 min appointment at their GP Practice At the CFAKC - Non responders shown kit, DVD and kit ordered on their behalf from the HUB 6 weeks later OBIEE checked for results Non responders get a phone call to ask if kit arrived ( Nudge) 10 weeks later OBIEE checked again for final patient result At each stage GP Practice receives summary, at the end a final report
18 Future Plans Call for a Kit Clinic s in over 40 low uptake GP practices across 8 CCGs Train Practice Cancer Champions to run CFAKCs in their practices Formal academic evaluation of CFAKC s Sharing CFAKC project locally & regionally All the Health Promotion events to continue with partners esp CRUK Develop new projects based on local evidence
