His parents were Teodosio Bustamante Vivar, eminent composer, organist of the Cathedral and singer and doña Mercedes Celi. At thirteen he was orphaned as a father and under the care of his mother and brothers: Vicente, Virginia and Emilia Bustamante Celi. The primary studies realized them in the school of the Christian Brothers. His first teacher of music and piano was the celebrated teacher Miguel Agustín Cabrera. For a scholarship granted by the Cabildo lojano, he entered the School of Arts and Crafts, now known as the Central School. There he learned the craft of saddlery. When finishing his office and titled in this, returns to Loja. Here he makes friends with Manuel Torres, who becomes his disciple of trust. His eagerness to excel, his art made him seek new horizons. In 1906 he moved to Lima-Peru, where with patience and effective study he acquired knowledge of harmony, melody, instrumentation, counterpoint, composition and escape. In 1910 he returned to Guayaquil just when there was a military confrontation bordering Ecuador and Peru. From this conflict he composed the Ecuadorian Warrior hymn, which defines the country's courage in those times. While performing the position of organist in the church of San Francisco de Guayaquil, he composed a whole collection of litanies, sacred chants and a two-part Requiem Mass, instrumented. Later in 1913 he left the main port and returned to Loja, where he sowed his inexhaustible inspiration, encouraging musical art among
2 the Lojanos and their first fruits were the so-called Septeto Lojano, made up of renowned personalities such as: Second Cueva Celi, Francisco Rodas Bustamante, Serafín Alberto Larriva, Manuel Torres, Sebastian Valdivieso Peña and Antonio Eduardo Hidalgo. He formed the Band of Musicians Society Workers of Loja, also the Band of the Police. He held the position of organist of the Cathedral and the Professorship in the Bernardo Valdivieso School. Within the liturgical music are religious hymns to the Heart of Jesus, to Santa Mariana, litanies, carols, among which are noted: Ya viene el niñito, En brazos de una doncella, La Virgen y San José, No sé niño hermoso, Lindo niño, Pimpollito del alma, Venid pastores, El leñador Salvador Bustamante Celi, was awarded the gold medal by the Illustrious Municipality of Loja; a card and silver palm awarded by the Committees of the Coronation of the Virgin of the Swan and several honorable mentions and diplomas. Its name is perennizada in the Conservatory of Salvador Salvador Bustamante Celi, like a recognition to the precursor of the lojana music. Half a year before his death, the musician-poet Lojano suffered from arthritis that made it impossible for him to handle his musical instruments. 3 Olimpo Cardenas Olimpo León Cárdenas Moreira (Vinces, Ecuador, July 5, Tuluá, Colombia, July 28, 1991) was an Ecuadorian singer who developed his career especially in Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico with presentations in Central and North America. He was an interpreter of boleros, valses, pasillos, tangos and yaravís, and considered along with Julio Jaramillo, one of the great interpreters of the Ecuadorian pasillos. It was born in Vinces, canton of the province of Los Ríos. His parents were Manuel Cardenas and Rosario Moreira, who resided in the sector of the then precinct Playas de Vinces. At the age of three he was an orphan of a mother, and five of a father; and was raised by his godmother, Maria Orellana vda. of Morejón, who instilled in him the taste for music and took him to live in the city of Guayaquil. He had half brothers, on the part of father: Silvia and Cornelio and on the part of mother had two older brothers: Silvia Coello Moreira and Mauro Coello Moreira. In Guayaquil began singing at 10 years in children's programs, in the station La Voz del Litoral. When he was 18, he married Vitalia Cobo. At the age of 20 he moved to Guayaquil where he participated in music programs such as The Supreme Court of the Art of CRE (Radio Broadcaster of Ecuador), later, the singer-songwriter Carlos Rubira Infante led and taught him to sing Ecuadorian rhythms and pasillos, because Olimpo only sang, tangos and Argentine valses. They then formed the duo Cárdenas-Rubira and recorded on June 23, 1946, the pasillo "In the distance" composed by Carlos Rubira Infante and Wenceslao Pareja. The musical theme had great success in the race of Olimpo and also was interpreted to pair with Julio Jaramillo and later by the famous pair of Bowen and Villafuerte. The Cárdenas-Rubira duo was the first to record an album completely made in Ecuador. Ifesa gave them Diploma of Honor to musical merit in recognition. In 1957, he signed a two-year contract with Orfeón Records, one of the largest record labels in Mexico, which lasted thirteen years, living in Mexico during that time, during which he toured almost all of Mexico with his performances in bullfights, coliseums, stadiums, theaters and nightclubs. Their discs were heard everywhere In Mexico, he recorded twenty full-length records and performed his popular music repertoire in the United States (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, San San Antonio, New York), Canada, Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, among others. Thus Olimpo Cárdenas opened the way for other Ecuadorian interpreters. In Mexico he began a new married life with Omayra Cruz Marín, from Armenia (Colombia). In 1970 it returned definitively to settle in Colombia, that adopted like second country. He settled in Bogota. He asserts that he knew Colombia and Mexico more than political in campaign. On some occasions in Bogota he made presentations during fifteen consecutive days with full full. He recorded seventy LP`s and 750 songs. According to the specialists, the validity of Olimpo Cárdenas resides in that their songs are intimately related with the sadness and the nostalgia. Some Red Chronicle editors repeatedly blamed their suicide songs for people with problems. He was killed by Olimpo Cardenas, the head of a newspaper after a suicide. "If, by my fault, so many people commit suicide, and this is punishable by law, I would have more prison than if I had murdered seven bishops," he commented humorously on occasion.
4 Olimpo Cárdenas arrived in New York in 1978 to meet old friends musicians and composers from Ecuador. At that time, he performed in New York, Chicago and Canada along with maestro Juan Prado in the requinto, accompanied on the second guitar by Ricardo Prado. During the presentations Olimpo, Juan and Ricardo recorded two discs of short duration composed by Carlos Sotomayor in the District of Manhattan. Between the songs Sotomayor composed a bolero titled "Talk me of you". The audience's reaction was filled with emotion and feeling. The sale of the records was successful. On Sunday, July 28, 1991,3 at the cattle fair in Tuluá, department of Valle del Cauca, while performing his first performance, singing "Tu duda y la mia," he died as a result of a heart attack. He was 68 years old. He was buried in the cemetery of El Apogeo south of Bogotá. with the number of tomb 721, is currently his remains in the central cemetery, in the words of the singer Celia Cruz would say in an interview Olimpo Cardenas died in his law singing, this is how we should die all the singers Answer the questions (5 points) 1. Where and when he was born? (0.5 point) 2. Who were his parents? (0.5 point) 3. What happened when he was a child? (0.5 point) 4. How was his childhood? (0.5 point) 5. At what age he started singing and where? (0.5 point) 6. What did Carlos Rubira teach to Olimpo and why? (0.5 point) 7. What did Rubira and Cardenas form and what did they do? (0.5 point) 8. What happened in 1957? (0.5 point) _ 9. What did some Red Chronicle about Olimpo Cardenas songs? (0.5 point) _ 10. How and when he died? (0.5 point) _
