2 Q&A with DINA DINA answers questions about his life, experiences, and good memories Which words describe your personality? Friendly, outgoing, caring, leaderly, ambitious, confident, empathetic, trustworthy. Which types of sport do you play or have played? I have played many sports. My personal favorites would be swimming, horseback riding, basketball, and gymnastics. I started horseback riding at 2 years old. When I was approximately 2 years old, I also learned to swim. I began gymnastics at 7 years old. I started playing basketball at 13 years old in junior high school. Which other types of sports are you interested in? I enjoy playing pool, volleyball, and am interested in fencing. List any other hobbies you may have or have had: Making jewelry, bowling, boating, fishing, photography, hiking, canoeing, acting, modeling, cooking, surfing, and volunteering at animal shelters. List which musical instruments you play or have played: Violin. Religion: Non-religious. How many hours of sleep do you get on an average night? 8. Describe your strong sides: My strong suits would be that I am a natural leader, I am a good teacher, and I am a great listener. I like to find peoples strong suits and set them to the perfect job. I also am an amazing teacher. I taught my sister how to drive and I taught my niece how to swim. Also, when it comes down to someone needing to speak what s on their mind, I m a great listener. Friends and family always come to me to speak about what troubles them. I have often thought about becoming a counselor, since I m so good at it. Describe your weak sides: My weak sides are that I can be too caring and that I am horrible at math. I have a tendency to put others before myself. Also, I m a giver. I m the one to give you my last dollar to make sure you re taken care of. People say it s a weakness, but it makes me happy to care for others. My other weakness is math I thank the creators of calculators! Basic math is a breeze, but long division, fractions, and the like are very difficult for me. What is your marital status? Engaged. Do you have any children? No. Do you eat healthy? Always. Do you smoke? No. Do you ride a bicycle? Sometimes. How much alcohol do you drink on average per week? I only drink when there s a celebration or holiday. Which countries have you visited: Bahamas, Belize, Grand Cayman, Mexico, United States. Describe the best holiday you have had: The best holiday I had was on St. Patrick s Day. The reason I say this is because I met my fiancé on St. Patrick s Day. I was on an online dating site and we decided to go to a parade. Ever since that day, he and I have been inseparable. We also plan on having our wedding on St. Patrick s Day. What do you like the most about your own country: The thing I like most about the United States is that we are a melting pot. Our country is open to other cultures and beliefs. We aren t a discriminatory nation. I like that we help countries in need by combating poverty.
3 Q&A with DINA - continued DINA s dreams, favorites and experiences Who are your idols/heroes/heroines? My idol is my mother. My mother always taught me to be loving. She was a single mother to my sister and me, and is a very strong-willed woman. She always worked hard to be there for us. She inspired my sister and me to follow our dreams. She never spoke in a negative way about people, and instead taught us to see the good in everyone. What are your goals in life? My primary goal in life right now is to start my career in Healthcare Administration. After I have started my career and my fiancé, we intend to get married. My fiancé and I plan on moving onto an empty plot of land and designing our own home. Once our home is finished, and we feel secure in our careers, and we plan to start a family. What were your childhood dreams: My childhood dream was to work as a dolphin trainer. I was always fascinated by marine life. I also always wanted to be an actress. I have been in several plays including William Shakespeare s Othello. Another dream of mine was to travel throughout the United States. I have already traveled to every state except Hawaii, Alaska and California. Scariest: The scariest moment in my life was when my mom, my friends and I were boating. My mom and my friend were on the boat while another friend and I were swimming. My mom and friend on the boat saw what I saw a huge 15 foot shark swimming right next to my friend and me in the water. I had to make sure I kept calm or she would panic if she saw the shark, and possibly cause it to attack. Luckily, the shark just observed us, and we swam to safety. Proudest: My proudest moment is earning good grades in high school. I took all of my classes online my for my senior year, and I excelled. I felt so proud to have been awarded a certificate. It felt great to show my parents and family how well I did. Most dangerous: The most dangerous experience of my life occurred when I was a child. I liked playing and jumping off of rocks and docks. I didn t understand why my dad didn t want my cousins and me not to play on them until later on in life. I found out that there were sharks that frequented the area. I didn t know that, and played on them anyway. Luckily, my cousins and I never had a run-in with the sharks. Which values do you rank the highest? Loyalty, trust and respect. Which childhood experience made the biggest impression on you? The childhood experience that had the biggest impression on me is knowing that both of my grandmothers were nurses. I pursued a career healthcare because they both loved this field and inspired me. Once I began studying, I loved learning about the human body and health. At first, I wasn t too fond of the idea of bathing, changing, and possibly drawing blood. Which was your greatest experience or moment? The greatest moment in my life so far would be when I started college. I had a late start, but it was amazing because I did it all by myself. Happiest: My happiest moment is when I found out I was going to be an aunt. I honestly cried tears of joy when I found out that my sister was expecting a child. My niece makes me so happy. She looks more like me than my sister, and everyone mistakes her as my daughter. She even has my personality! Funniest: The funniest moment was also an embarrassing moment. I was staying the night at my friend s house, and her older brother and his friend (who I never met) had just gotten home. I was walking down her stairs to meet them, and was wearing a skirt. I ended up slipping down her stairs in front of them all and my skirt went up. We all had a good laugh, but I was so embarrassed. I also had a huge crush on her brother! Greatest sorrow: My greatest sorrow would have to be when my grandfather passed away. My grandpa was like a second father to me. Growing up, I was at my grandparents house every day. Also, a few years ago after my grandpa got hurt, so I lived with him until he passed. It was extremely sad to have lost someone who was so close. My grandfather and I would always sit and watch television while eating ice cream, and talk about our day. He s the one who taught me how to fish. My grandpa could always cheer me up. When I lost him, I was devastated.
4 Q&A with DINA - continued DINA s dreams, favorites and experiences What is your favorite color? My favorite color is aqua blue. It s my favorite color because it s my birth stone. Also, it reminds me of clear ocean water or a beautiful spring. What is your favorite animal? My favorite animal is a cat. I love the playful nature of cats. They re also very entertaining to watch. My cat acts more like a dog than a cat. She s extremely lovable and follows me room to room and licks me like a dog. She loves to cuddle at night and sleep on my pillow with me. Cats are very smart animals. What is your favorite kind of food? My favorite food would have to be my grandma s homemade chicken soup. I can literally eat a pot of her soup in two days. Her soup recipe includes diced chicken breast, leeks, celery, carrots, onion, garlic, bay leaves, parsley, pepper and salt. She lets it simmer for three hours, for extra flavor. Her soup always makes me happy. What is your favorite kind of music: My favorite music would have to be 90 s music. Also classic rock, since my dad and mom raised me on it. I love Pink Floyd, since my father and uncle would always play it on their guitars growing up. I do enjoy trance music, too. But my personal favorite is 90 s music, because it s upbeat and always gives me energy. What is your favorite kind of car: My favorite car would be a Chevrolet Corvette. I bought my first Corvette from my mom when I was 19 years old. It was a 1994 teal blue Corvette, with black leather seats. My car was my baby. I wouldn t even let anyone drive it because I was so cautious. My mother named that car Betsey! What is your favorite kind of pet: My favorite pet is a cat, for all of the reasons that I wrote! What is your favorite time of year: My favorite time of year would be spring. It s the perfect temperature. Also, I love that all of the flowers are in bloom. As a child, we always took a vacation during Spring break. What is your favorite book and/or author: I can t choose, I have too many. What is your favorite movie and/or director: My favorite movies is The Pirates of the Caribbean. My favorite actor is Johnny Depp. When the first movie came out, I saw it three times in theatre. I also bought the videotape, and watched it repeatedly at home! I loved that it was actionpacked, and that it was intermixed with both romance and comedy.
