3 Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) Recommendations Routine annual influenza vaccination of all persons aged 6 months and older In general, health-care providers should begin offering vaccination soon after vaccine becomes available, and if possible, by October All children aged 6 months 8 years who are recommended for 2 doses should receive their first dose as soon as possible after vaccine becomes available; these children should receive the second dose 4 weeks later.

6 2013 Pilot School-based Clinics Shoo the Flu (StF) will build on experiences of ACPHD. In 2013, the IAP conducted 5 school-based flu clinics in Oakland and Castro Valley from October through November. Shoo the Flu: The Basics Free flu vaccine this fall for all preschool and elementary school students in Oakland. Shoo the Flu will bring the nurses and vaccine to school for half-day, on-site clinics.

7 Shoo the Flu: The Basics Free flu vaccine this fall for all preschool and elementary school students in Oakland. Shoo the Flu will bring the nurses and vaccine to school for half-day, on-site clinics. StF will handle all of the logistics and program promotion. Vaccinations only if written parental consent. Teachers and on-site school staff welcome to participate. StF will measure the impact on student and community health with UC Berkeley.

8 Year by year enrollment objectives Year 1: OUSD preschools and elementary schools, including charter schools K-8 schools will also be included with the older grades (6-8) serving as a pilot audience on a case-by-case basis Non-OUSD charter and private schools (pre-k 5 ) as time allows Year 2: Year 1 schools + continued recruitment of non-ousd charter and private schools (pre-k 8) and all OUSD middle schools Year 3: All public and private pre-schools, elementary, and middle schools in Oakland OUSD special needs students, regardless of grade, will be included in all years of the program. The goal is to reach at lease a 70% vaccination rate in the children enrolled in participating schools.
