4 Additional Information (e.g. derogations, delivery partners) The full time and part time deliveries have the same length, however the full time delivery has a greater workload as it also features a practice placement. Full time students will complete 32 weeks in practice placement for 24 hours each week, split 50:50 between theory and practice, during the Stages 1 & 2 of the programme and attend weekly research tutorials during Stage 3. BPP University has entered into a collaborative agreement with West Midlands Surgical Training Centre to provide specialist facilities, including cadaveric heads, for use by students on the MClinDent programmes. From December BPP University has entered into an agreement with the College of Dentistry to deliver teaching. Programme Regulations 2 1. Authority These regulations are made under the authority of the University s General Academic Regulations, Part A, Paragraph 7, and in accordance with these provisions, are cited as the Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) Regulations. 2. Conflict with the General Academic Regulations Practical and clinical modules may not be condoned. 3. Conditions for Admission For UK applicants: Undergraduate qualification in Dentistry and Completion of at least one year in clinical practice and Current GDC practising certificate For overseas applicants: Undergraduate qualification in Dentistry and Completion of at least one year in clinical practice and Letter of good standing or equivalent from an appropriate regulatory dental body and IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component) Prior to commencing clinical placement: o Current satisfactory immunisation status and o Current evidence of a satisfactory CRB check and o Current evidence of malpractice indemnity insurance 4. Conditions of Acceptance An offer of a place on the programme is subject to the terms and conditions stated in the documentation accompanying the offer, these regulations and the General Academic Regulations, 2 The mandatory Conditions for Admission are approved during programme validation. 5 as in force at the time of interpretation. The acceptance of the offer is taken as agreement to these regulations. 5. Conditions for Progression The programme is divided into: Year 1: PG Certificate in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) (60 M credits); Year 2: PG Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) (60 M credits) and following successful completion of the Research Dissertation, Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) (180 M credits). A student may not progress to the next year of the programme until they have passed all modules in that year and may not submit the dissertation until they have successfully completed the credits for the PGDip award. 6. Prerequisite There are no prerequisite modules within each year. 7. Changing Modules or Specialisations Students must complete all the modules on the programme. 8. Conditions for the Granting of Awards a) No students shall be entitled to enrol for an award other than the Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery). b) A student who completes an approved programme of study, as described in the Programme Specification shall be awarded a Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery). c) Those students who choose to exit the Programme without completing it may nevertheless be entitled to exit with an award as indicated below: PG Certificate in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) provided they complete an approved programme of modules and the learning outcomes for such award as set out in the Programme Handbook PG Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) provided they complete an approved programme of modules and the learning outcomes for such award as set out in the Programme Handbook Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) provided they complete an approved programme of modules and the learning outcomes for such award as set out in the Programme Handbook 9. Classification of Award a) The title of the award on successful completion of the programme will be Masters in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery). 8 PART 3 - PROGRAMME OUTCOMES Programme aims An exciting feature of the programme is the incorporation of a unit devoted to the non-surgical facial enhancement and rejuvenation using fillers and botulinum toxin. The programme delivers advanced surgical training in oral surgery and builds upon existing clinical skills acquired at undergraduate level as well as introducing new and popular disciplines of implantology and facial enhancement not covered by the undergraduate training. During the programme you will: Refresh and enhance your knowledge of basic sciences important to surgical practice Acquire advanced knowledge and clinical skills of oral surgery, implantology, bone grafting, and cosmetic facial enhancement. Learn how to manage patients with advanced stages of oral disease. Develop knowledge and competencies in non-surgical facial rejuvenation methodologies and treatments Acquire a working knowledge of scientific methodology Have a foundation for evidence-based patient care Additionally the programme aims to promote an understanding of the different requirements essential to the provision of ethical, predictable and evidence-based oral surgery. Programme Aims The overall aim is to deliver sound teaching in the theory and safe practice of oral surgery. The programme aims to train practitioners to gain competency and adopt reflective practice as well as provide opportunities for research and further postgraduate development. The specific programme aims are to: provide evidence-based teaching in the theory and practice of oral surgery provide opportunities for personal and professional development introduce and encourage research amongst practitioners which contributes to the enhancement of research in oral surgery promote safe practice of oral surgery and aftercare provide competent and reflective practitioners appraise levels of competency Objectives of the Programme By the end of the programme graduates will have acquired the experience and knowledge to confidently: Deliver safe, predictable and competent oral surgery treatment Understand their role and responsibilities to their patients in the provision of oral surgery Build professional relationships with colleagues and the dental team and effective communication with other professionals in the management of complex cases requiring an interdisciplinary approach Interpret research findings and their implications in oral surgery Evaluate various treatment options, demonstrate proficiency in applying complex treatment modalities and reflect on all aspects relating to practice management, synthesising information gained from a wide variety of sources in order to develop an optimal and realistic treatment plan.
