AESTHETIC, RECONSTRUCTIVE & CRANIFACIAL ACDEMY (ARC) 3. HCS-CLEFT KINDER SCHWEIZ SCHOOL (HCS-CKHS SCHOOL) On behalf of the Board of Trustees of HCS, I am pleased to present the Annual report for In 2016, we concentrated on making improvements in the school project GSRICFS The GSRICFS continued with its group practice. The GSRICFS would like to express its gratitude to the Smile Train, USA for their support to the children with cleft defects who were treated free of charge at the GSRICFS. In 2015 we raised 39% of the budget from the sources within the hospital. In 2016 we raised 41% of the budget through similar sources. Dr. Ashish Fanan joined the team as a Junior Consultant. Statistics Surgery We have done 1,439 surgeries in Of these 1,376 patients were treated for cleft defects. We performed 725 primary cleft lip and palate surgeries. The Smile train funded for 1226 cleft surgeries that included, primary cleft lip and palate surgeries and secondary cleft surgeries like rhinoplasties and alveolar bone grafting surgeries. We have also done 06 distraction surgeries, 02 Nose Reconstruction, 05 Vascular Malformation resections, 04 Hypertelorism Corrections and 03 Esthetic 1

2 HYDERABAD CLEFT SOCIETY Rhinoplasties. We have done 63 other maxillofacial surgeries like orthognathic, trauma, cyst and tumor resection surgeries. Speech Therapy We have done 1279 speech assessments and 886 speech therapies during the same period. Orthodontics We have done 25 orthodontic therapies during 2016 Infrastructure The GSRICFS raised funds to make additions to the following infrastructure and equipment. 1. A new CS 650 Anesthesia workstation from GE 2. A new CS 8100 digital OPG x-ray machine from Kodak 3. A 3D photogrammetry workstation which was donated to us by 3dMD, United Kingdom. This donation was facilitated by Prof. Stefaan Bergé and Thomas Maal, University Medical Center, Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. 4. Replacement of surgical instrumentation. Dr. Rajgopal is continuing his PhD at the Radboud UMC, Nijmegen, The Netherlands with Prof. Anne Marie Kuijpers-Jagtman, Prof. Stefaan Berge, and Prof. Ann Kummer as his promoters. He aims to defend his thesis in May Dr. S. B. V. Ramana Reddy, Orthodontist, continues his PhD at the Radboud UMC on Morphofunctional Orthodontics in Patients with Cleft Defects Funding for including 20 patients in the primary study has been raised by Stichting Sumbing Bibir 3. I continue to supervise Dr. Praveen Neela while he does his PhD on Genetic and epigenetic factors in etiology of non-syndromic cleft lip and palate which is being completed at the Yenepoya University, Mangalore 4. I have also been appointed to supervise one more PhD program being done by Dr. Shahista Parveen on 3-dimensional assessment of effect of various orthopedic treatment modalities in nonsyndromic unilateral cleft lip and palate patients also being done at the Yenepoya University, Mangalore 3

5 SCHOOL PROJECT HYDERABAD CLEFT SOCIETY The Cleft School Project, which was formally inaugurated on December 26, 2009, has been expanded from 80 to 82 students in The Hyderabad Cleft Society would like to express its gratitude to the Cleft Kinder Hilfe Schweiz for their financial support to school project. Achievements: Of the 82 children presently enrolled in the school, 68 children study at Krishnaveni Talent School, Hyderabad spread over grades I to X. 10 students joined pre university courses (Intermediate) at Sri Chandra Junior College and Sangam Laxmibai Junior College, Hyderabad. 1 student is pursuing Mechanical Engineering at Mahaveer Institute of Science and Technology, Hyderabad. 1 student is studying B.Sc. (Biotechnology) at HRD College, Hyderabad. Padmavathi, who was accepted to complete her schooling at the prestigious Ross School in New York, USA is excelling at her courses. Visitors: This year saw some important visitors to our school. 1. Ms. Ilse Manhard. Ilse has been a regular visitor to our school over the last few years. She uses her vast experience as a pediatric nurse to help the children and the administration to run the school 2. Ms. Katharina Bode. Katharina is the CEO of Cleft Kinder HilfeScwheiz. She visited the school and to understand and streamline the administration of the school. 3. Mr. Dean Forbes. Dean is a photographer and he spent time at the school photographing the children and their surroundings. Deans pictures can be used to raise funds for the school. ARC ACADEMY Academic programs 1. Dr. Sidra Ansari & Dr. Kriti Jain completed their Fellowship in Dr. Ashish Fanan has been completed his tenure as a Stichting Sumbing Bibir Fellow. 5

Dr. Shikha Yadav was inducted as an ARC Academy Fellow in We had 84 post graduate students in Maxillofacial Surgery from different dental schools in India attend a one-month rotation as part of their training curriculum with us. Research programs Dr. Abhilash Pasare, Oral Pathologist, started a research project in association with the Universitätsmedizin, Göttingen, Germany on Nitric oxide synthase gene polymorphisms and its association with cleft palate patients: A genome wide association study in Dr. Pasare has started a pilot study of this project by collecting samples for genetic testing at the University of Göttingen. If there are positive results in the pilot study there is scope for Dr. Pasare to enroll in the PhD program at the University of Göttingen. Funding We have also raised funding to treat complex craniofacial anomalies in a private hospital in conjunction with the Departments of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Pediatric Anesthesia. We have performed 4 intracranial hypertelorism corrections in 2016 with the funding raised through this effort. This funding was provided by fund transfers and donation of instruments and implants by the Ravi Educational Foundation, Dr. Raj Chowdary and Dr. Likith V. Reddy.
