Determine if you should be using floss, interdental brushes or water irrigator. Use a fluoride toothpaste daily. (Some will have discomfort/ tissue reactions from SLS s, hexametaphosphates and Stannous Fluoride) Many patients will be given Rx for higher concentration of Fluoride with or without mouth guard. Decrease intake of surgery snacks and frequency. If you need to eat or drink them, be sure to rinse with water or chew sugarless gum (xylitol if possible) to neutralize the ph. Also, watch your intake of carbohydrates, like bread and pasta and cookies, etc. which tend to hang around in the mouth. Avoid or decrease your intake of spicy, salty or very acidic foods, especially lemons and limes. Do not smoke. Avoid or decrease your intake of alcohol. Can burn tissues. Avoid or decrease your intake of caffeine-containing drinks and foods.

10 Chew your food slowly and thoroughly, taking small sips of water/milk to aid in swallowing. Some patients should try yogurt/applesauce instead of water. See your dentist/hygienist at least 3-4 times a year and have them routinely check you for evidence of early decay. Fluoride varnish is indicated at each visit. Remember.. Flavorings can sometimes burn It can be trial and error-sometimes they work and sometimes they don t! Products and companies come and go. Check their web sites for further information.
