1 2018 NYSSOMS ANNUAL MEETING KEYNOTE SPEAKER CRAIG M. MISCH, DDS, MDS WEILL CORNELL MEDICAL COLLEGE, NYC MAY 19-20
2 WE ARE TRULY DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU Dear Friends and Colleagues, We are pleased to invite you to the 2018 Annual Meeting of the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. For the first time, NYSSOMS will be collaborating with Osteo Science Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing hard and soft tissue regeneration in Oral and CranioMaxillofacial Surgery. Following the NYSSOMS s roster of esteemed leaders in the field, this year s speaker will be the Chair of Osteo Science Foundation s Education Committee, Dr. Craig M. Misch. s lecture will span topics related to dental implants and regenerative medicine, bringing s clinical experience to the local oral surgery community. The meeting will take place on Sunday, May 20, in New York City at Weill Cornell Medical College. The day prior, on Saturday, May 19, OMSNIC will present a risk management course. The program will provide an intimate setting to hear from one of our field s most sought-after speakers lecturing on a topic relevant to all oral surgeons. We look forward to sharing ideas and learning new clinical techniques against the backdrop of one of the country s most exciting cities. Even if you are local, May is one of the best times to be in New York City, when the city s energy and spirit returns after a long, cold winter. We hope you will take advantage of the meeting to explore all that New York City has to offer while learning from one of the leaders in our field. Warmly, KEYNOTE SPEAKER Craig M. Misch, DDS, MDS Dr. Craig M. Misch graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He then received postgraduate certificates in prosthodontics and oral implantology as well as a Master of Dental Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. acted as Co-Director of the University of Pittsburgh Oral Implantology Center until he entered specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He currently practices as a dual specialist in Sarasota, Florida. is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida, Alabama and Michigan in the Departments of Periodontics and Prosthodontics. is a member of the editorial boards of International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, Implant Dentistry and the Journal of Oral Implantology. He is currently the Chair of Osteo Science Foundation s Education Committee. has authored over 45 publications including 14 textbook chapters and lectures extensively on the topics of reconstructive surgery, bone grafting, implant surgery and prosthodontics. He has been designated as a Leader in Continuing Education by Dentistry Today. PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS Glen C. Donnarumma, DDS President, NYSSOMS Peter K. Moy, DMD Chair, Osteo Science Foundation Changing Treatment Paradigms via Advances in Regenerative Materials & Implant Design Sufficient bone quantity for implant placement may be compromised following tooth loss and bone resorption. Bone augmentation is often required to place an adequate number of dental implants in ideal positions for prosthetic support. In addition to improving biomechanical conditions, bone enhancement can also provide proper ridge contour for improved esthetic outcomes. Inherent disadvantages of bone grafting techniques include increased morbidity, surgical time, costs and treatment length. As such, a trend has developed towards more minimally invasive approaches. Alternative surgical techniques that avoid the need for bone harvest or use of tissue engineering products to replace autograft are considered. Another approach is the use of shorter and narrower implants, angled implants and/or fewer implants for prosthetic support. Rather than surgically reconstructing esthetic zone defects, many clinicians opt to replace the missing hard and soft tissue with the prostheses. This presentation will look at methods to minimize the morbidity of bone grafting and guide clinicians on implant rehabilitation with grafting and non-grafting approaches. FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT OR Online registration will open in February 2018.
