Holt D.J, Liu H., Coombs G., Goff D.C., Buckner R.L., Resting-state functional connectivity of the medial prefrontal cortex in schizophrenia and the delusion-prone, International Congress on Schizophrenia Research, 2010, Colorado Springs, USA Narrative Report (limit to 500 words) My work focuses on multi-modal imaging technology that combines information provided from electrical (MEG, EEG), hemodynamic (fmri, functional connectivity MRI - fcmri), and intracranial EEG. The majority of my time is spent on executing the patient-oriented research projects, including experimental design, data collection and analyses. I have conducted several studies on healthy individuals and patients with epilepsy to develop new imaging techniques that aim to better localize the language, memory, and motor systems. The findings were published on scientific journals including: Neuron, Proceedings of National Academy of Science USA, Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Neurosurgery, etc. I will be funded by NIH through the K25 career development award in which I proposed to improve the pre-surgical mapping technology based on resting state fmri. I also started a project to study the inter-hemispheric interaction in healthy young subjects, older adults, and schizophrenia patients. Other ongoing projects include a longitudinal study on stroke patients in which I investigate the functional connectivity disruption and the recovery after stroke. My teaching efforts include teaching the lab course for HST 563, Imaging Biophysics and Clinical Applications, in which I designed the lab experiments on MEG data analysis. My past research has made contributions in answering several important questions in clinical and basic neuroscience research. My current research projects seek to develop new technologies that can improve, or even replace, traditional functional mapping approaches for epilepsy, tumor, and stroke patients. 6
