1 Strategies to Stop Joint Pain: Upper Body MELT Presented by: Sue Hitzmann, MS, CST, NMT, Creator of the MELT Method Saturday, 4:00-5:30pmm Are you looking for simple techniques to improve shoulder and neck stability so you get the most out of your workouts while reducing the risk of injury? Learn how to add 10-minute MELT Length and NeuroStrength maps to your upper-body training to improve your athletic performance and flexibility as well as reduce inflammation, joint damage and pain. These easy techniques can also be added to any group exercise, strength, yoga, or Pilates workout to get great, pain-free results. Key Physiological Understanding to Stop Joint Pain Diaphragms The diaphragms of the human body Structural connections Functional and dysfunctional links The Pelvis The center of gravity: the SI joint Structural connections Function and dysfunctional links Connective Tissue Functions of connective tissue Hydration and fluid flow Stiffness, elasticity, and tone Neurological Tone Stuck stress Inhibition Compensation Pain response Compensatory Recruitment Pelvic/shoulder girdle instability NeuroCore instability Excessive recruitment
2 The MELT Method The MELT Method is a breakthrough self-treatment system that restores the supportiveness of the body's connective tissue to combat chronic pain, improve performance, and decrease the accumulated stress caused by repetitive postures and movements of everyday living. MELT simulates the hands-on techniques that manual therapist Sue Hitzmann uses to eliminate stress, pain, and dysfunction in her private clients. MELT is the very first Hands-off Bodywork method developed for the general public as a self-care tool for chronic pain. It s an affordable and effective addition to any wellness or fitness routine. MELT is the first applicable neurofascial technique designed to rehydrate connective tissue and rebalance the nervous system. MELT offers the opportunity for anyone, regardless of age or fitness level, to improve their longevity through self-treatment. The consistent results MELT yields are remarkable and undeniable. Previously such results were available only through ongoing, costly bodywork from multiple practitioners. The MELT Protocol MELT directly addresses the effects of stuck stress and imbalance with the 4 R s - Reconnect, Rebalance, Rehydrate, and Release. The 4 R s are the MELT formula of selftreatment. Within each category, there are different techniques used to achieve desired results. The 4 R s of MELT reconnect the mind and body, rebalance neurological regulation, rehydrate the connective tissue, and release compression in joints caused by daily living and repetitive postures and patterns. Efficient neurological regulation and healthy, hydrated connective tissue are essential elements to a stable body. Once balance is restored with the 4 R s you can add the next component of Hands-Off Bodywork by adding the 2 R s of MELT NeuroStrength: Reintegrate and Repattern to restore the neurological pathways and the natural timing of the motor response needed for stability during movement. These two R s together yield the stable, efficient movement necessary for an active, pain-free lifestyle. If a client has pain, it s important to consider how movement is achieved even when pain is present. If a body is unstable, reintegrating timing or repatterning movement is ineffective and often counterproductive. Rather than improve or eliminate chronic imbalance, you'll only enhance compensatory patterns. In other words, you create a stronger, more dysfunctional body. Instead of strengthening instability, the path out of pain is to restore stability by regaining connective tissue hydration and efficient neurological regulation.
3 Reconnect Improve Body Sense Sense areas of imbalance Rebalance Restore ground force reaction Stimulate the neurological mechanisms by treating the hands Differentiate thorax from pelvis to reacquire function without compensation Rehydrate Stimulate the Rooted Core through the Upper Body Compression Sequence to support pelvic stability and ground force reaction Restore balance in tensional myofascial lines Reintegrate and Repattern Reintegrate proper timing of mid-back stabilization Serape effect Spiral Line Release Decompress the neck to restore differentiated motion of the head and cervical spine
