1 ASSURANCES By the end of, the student is expected to: Acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. Exhibit a physically-active lifestyle and understand the relationship between physical activity and health throughout the lifespan. Demonstrate competence such as improved accuracy in manipulative skills in dynamic situations. Use basic skills such as jumping rope, moving to a beat, and catching and throwing in game-like situations. Continue to assume responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. Match different types of physical activities to health-related fitness components and explain ways to improve fitness based on the principle of frequency, intensity, and time. Continue to learn the etiquette of participation Resolve conflicts during games and sports in acceptable ways. PE - 1 of 5

2 First Semester The student is expected to: 1. Demonstrate appropriate use of levels in dynamic movement situations such as jumping high for a rebound and bending knees and lowering center of gravity when guarding an opponent (TEKS 5.1A) 2. Demonstrate smooth combinations of fundamental locomotor skills such as running and dodging and hop0step-jump (TEKS 5.1B) 3. Demonstrate attention to form, power, accuracy, and follow-through in performing movement skills (TEKS 5.1C) 4. Demonstrate controlled balance on a variety of objects such as balance board, stilts, scooters, and skates (TEKS 5.1D) 5. Demonstrate simple stunts that exhibit agility such as jumping challenges with proper landings (TEKS 5.1E) 6. Combine traveling and rolling with smooth transitions (TEKS 5.1F) 7. Combine weight transfer and balance on mats and equipment (TEKS 5.1G) 8. Demonstrate the ability to contrast a partner s movement (TEKS 5.1H) 9. Perform selected folk dances (TEKS 5.1I) 10. Jump a rope using various rhythms and foot patterns repeatedly (TEKS 5.1J) 11. Demonstrate competence in manipulative skills in dynamic situations such as overhand throw, catch, shooting, hand dribble, foot dribble, kick, and striking activities such as hitting a softball (TEKS 5.1K) 12. Demonstrate combinations of locomotor and manipulative skills in complex and/or game-like situations such as pivoting and throwing, twisting and striking, and running and catching (TEKS 5.1L) 13. Identify common phases such as preparation, movement, follow through, or recovery in a variety of movement skills such as tennis serve, handstand, and free throw (TEKS 5.2A) 14. Identify the importance of various elements of performance for different stages during skill learning such as form, power, accuracy, and consistency (TEKS 5.2B) 15. Choose appropriate drills/activities to enhance the learning of a specific skill (TEKS 5.2C) 16. Participate in moderate to vigorous physical activities on a daily basis that develop health-related fitness (TEKS 5.3A) 17. Identify appropriate personal fitness goals in each of the components of healthrelated fitness (TEKS 5.3B) 18. Explain the value of participation in community physical activities such as little league and parks and recreation (TEKS 5.3C) 19. Use equipment safely and properly (TEKS 5.5A) PE - 2 of 5

3 20. Select and use proper attire that promotes participation and prevents injury (TEKS 5.5B) 21. Describe the importance of taking personal responsibility for reducing hazards, avoiding accidents, and preventing injuries during physical activity (TEKS 5.5C) 22. Identify potentially dangerous exercises and their adverse effects on the body (TEKS 5.5D) 23. Describe fundamental components and strategies used in net/wall, invasion, target, and fielding games such as basic positions-goalie, offense, or defense (TEKS 5.6A) 24. Explain the concept and importance of team work (TEKS 5.6B) 25. Follow rules, procedures, and etiquette (TEKS 5.7A) 26. Use sportsmanship skills for settling disagreements in socially acceptable ways such as remaining calm, identifying the problem, listening to others, generating solutions, or choosing a solution that is acceptable to all (TEKS 5.7B) 27.
