1 Relationship of Selected Physical Fitness Components with the Playing Ability of Kho-Kho Players Dr. Ashok Kumar Assistant Professor Dept. of Physical Education TEL&R, PGGC, Sector-11, Chandigarh Abstract Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship of selected physical fitness components with the playing ability of male kho-kho players. Methodology: Twenty male kho-kho players were selected from P.G.Govt. College, Sector-11, Chandigarh, studying in B.P.Ed. third year and age ranged from 17 to 23 years. For the purpose of the present study there were four physical fitness components (Endurance Ability, Flexibility, Speed Ability and Agility). Kho-kho performance was evaluated on the basis of some specific criteria and total performance was set at 50 points. For relating the motor fitness components with the khothe level of significance was set at Results: The findings showed that Endurance Ability, flexibility, Speed Ability and Agility had a significant relationship with the playing ability of kho-kho Conclusions: On the basis of the results it was concluded that Endurance Ability, Speed Ability and Agility played a vital role for good performance in kho-kho. Key Words: Physical Fitness and Playing Ability. 1. INTRODUCTION Kho-kho is a primitive sport but till today it could not get a respective place in the world/society because lacking of interest towards this game. It can easily emerge because it does not require the good financial support and facility. So, we should make the attempts for its success. In ancient era or in the past it was thinked that kho-kho is a minor game so, there was no need of any advancement but, today this scenario has changed. Leading countries are on demand to include it in Olympic games. Means now it has got too much popularity all over the world. So, it is very important to know the things those contributions a lot for a great success in kho-kho. As we know well that now a days era is very competitive and advanced one. Today, for getting success in any games and sports we should keep in mind the lot of things like: advance facilities, skills, techniques, tactics and policies which may contribute to the success in a competition. Without any doubt we can say that, any success is depends on the science. Science means all those things which have logics and reliability. So, an attempt have taken by the research scholar to know that the actual role of physical fitness components in kho-kho games. No doubt a good level of physical fitness is a primary goal for any games and sports. It is right that we should have better understanding with the advance technologies/science, but without knowing the client a good doctor can not do/apply any treatment. So, we should identify the factors which contribute for a great success in kho-kho. Indian culture is the oldest culture in this world. It has gifted many things to this world. Literature, arts, sports, philosophy, scientific theories and social, political and economical 41

2 thoughts spread in the world are originated from Indian culture. The most ancient and holy religious treatise 'Rig-Veda' is the national asset of India. Greatest epics Mahabharata and Ramayana are from India. For the welfare of mankind the concept of Ramrajya (utopian world) is derived from Ramayana. In the same way India culture is the mother of various games and sports in this world. We find reference of various games and sports in the ancient treatises of India. Basically Kho-Kho is an Indian traditional game. Kho- kho game is played particularly in rural and urban areas. This game has become popular in other states also. All states also have their own Kho-kho Associations, which are affiliated to Kho-kho Federation of India. The degree to which the component of physical fitness contributes to particular game or activity depends on the type and emphasis is laid on those components of physical fitness which are fundamental to that particular sport. The purpose of the study was to see the relationship of selected physical fitness components with the playing ability of kho-kho players. 2. METHODOLOGY Twenty male kho-kho players were selected from P.G.Govt. College, Sector-11, Chandigarh, studing in B.P.Ed. third yearn and age ranged from 17 to 23 years. For the purpose of the present study there were four physical fitness components (Endurance Ability, Flexibility, Speed Ability and Agility). Kho-kho performance was evaluated on the basis of some specific criteria and total performance was set at 50 points. In this criteria total performance was evaluated on the basis of the five elements like: smoothness of the movements, total time taken by the performer in running, total number of defensive skills used by a player, total number of out done by a offender, total number of offensive skills used by a player. for measuring endurance ability, flexibility, speed ability and agility, cooper 12 minutes run/walk test, sit and reach test, 50 metres dash and shuttle run were respectively used. All the instructions were given to the subjects before the administration of the different tests. orrelation was applied for relating the selected physical fitness components with the playing ability of khokho. The level of significance was set at RESULTS After analyzing the data the following results were drawn: Table-1 Relationship of selected physical fitness components with the playing ability of Kho- Kho players S.N. 6 4. RESULTS The findings showed that Endurance Ability, Flexibility, Speed Ability and Agility had a significant relationship with the playing ability of kho-kho. 5. CONCLUSIONS On the basis of the results it was concluded that Endurance Ability, Flexibility, Speed Ability and Agility played a vital role for good performance in kho-kho means all the selected physical fitness components should be developed by the coaches by the scientific training methods. 6.
