1 - Bachel of (BMusEd) MUSIC EDUCATION - BACHELOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION (BMUSED) The Department's experienced educats teach courses aimed at preparing students f a career in music education, combined with unique programs opptunities f involvement. The CU program has resulted in 00 percent job placement f our graduates. Because of the varying challenges opptunities associated with teaching music in K school contexts, the undergraduate music education curriculum strikes a balance between specialization generalization. BME students must demonstrate a sufficiently broad knowledge of the entire music program/curriculum, but also possess the specialized skills necessary to be a successful general music, choir, chestra b instruct. Program Emphases Four basic curricular options are provided f students pursuing the Bachel of degree: chal chal general instrumental instrumental general The chal-general instrumental-general emphases include a larger concentration of course wk field experiences related to elementary general music teaching, while the chal instrumental emphases involve me specialized course wk field experiences related to the teaching of choir, chestra b classes at the secondary level. Within each degree emphasis, students have a limited number of elective credits that may be used to further customize degree wk accding to their interests needs. As first-year students, BME students complete ce studies in music liberal arts. The first music education courses early field experiences are completed during the sophome year. During the juni year, students enroll in capstone methods courses specialized electives that allow f me detailed sustained study of curricular models, instructional materials, teaching methods. Internships full-time student teaching provide culminating experiences during the seni year, as students wk in partnership with experienced public school teachers assume the role responsibilities of a professional music educat. Internship student teaching placements are chosen in consultation with faculty adviss the music education chair. Dual Degree Program BMus/BMusEd in Perfmance Qualified music majs who have been approved by the relevant maj departments may elect to complete a dual degree in music perfmance (woodwinds, brass percussion, strings, voice jazz emphasis) music education (instrumental chal tracks). Requirements f these dual degree program range from 9 to credit hours, a minimum of 0 semesters of study (including one semester of full-time student teaching) is typically necessary to complete all requirements. Requirements A minimum of credit hours with a cumulative GPA of.7 must be earned f the BME degree, with no grade below C- in a course. In addition to 0 credit hours of teacher education course wk 0 clock hours of early field experience, music education majs complete credit hours in liberal arts disciplines (English composition, literature arts, mathematics, social sciences, natural sciences) credit hours in music (music they aural skills, musicology ethnomusicology, applied study, ensemble, keyboard voice, conducting). Ce requirements in liberal arts music are designated by the music education faculty approved by the College of curriculum committee. A minimum of five of the seven semesters of required ensemble registration must be in a conducted chal ensemble (University Singers, University Choir, Collegiate Chale Women's Chus).
