4 WHO ARE WE? We are a registered charity and one of the most vibrant Art Centres in Northern Ireland. THE PLAYHOUSE: Founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Pauline Ross, with a grant of just 300. Presents over 150 theatre, music and comedy performances each year for audiences of 15,000. Commended for our contribution to Arts and Culture during City of Culture Awarded UK Regional Theatre of the Year, Restored and redeveloped our B1 listed buildings during 2009 at a cost of 4.6m. Produces and tours new Theatre and Art of the highest calibre. Delivers hundreds of art education projects per year to thousands of vulnerable people, including disabled, youth at risk, unemployed, prisoners and lone parents. Awards hundreds of Open College Network qualifications, boosting capacity and providing pathways to further education and employment. Has a local, national and international portfolio of projects and artists. The Playhouse has been and continues to be, a nucleus for arts in the city and across N.Ireland. Our training provides nationally recognized qualifications that kick starts educational and employment prospects as well as developing confidence, self-esteem and motivation. I ve really benefited from taking part it has helped me identify what I want to do with my life and it has stopped me from deviating. Project Participant Use the arts as a PEACEBUILDING tool. We work with former members of Republican and Loyalist organisations, former RUC & current PSNI Officers, former Army personnel and relatives / children of people killed or severely affected by the Troubles. We have had a significant impact on peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland as recognised by the Christopher Ewart-Biggs Memorial prize A very, very powerful and moving drama and testimony. Everyone in Northern Ireland should see this and reflect. This is true Community Relations work as it should be. Audience Member COMMISSION, PRODUCE and TOUR NEW THEATRE. Our work has been seen in Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Belgium and the USA to huge critical acclaim.
