Christine has served as a student member of this committee and now as a young professional, she has expressed her passion for section service and would like to stay active with the committee. I highly recommend her as a new member. Her work in the past year was fundamental to achieve the success we did with the mentorship program and other projects such as the communication with lapsed members. Membership Project Strategic Plan: One of the revised long-term goals for the Section was determined as: Member Engagement Support the development and allocation of resources to enhance membership retention and recruitment

3 Several goals were identified and the ones highlighted below received the most votes regarding importance and will be addressed by the MC after meeting at CSM.

4 GOAL: Member Engagement Develop a process to orient new committee chairs, committee members, SIG presidents, to their volunteer positions. Develop Board of Director and committee orientation procedures to facilitate continuing competency. Create a mechanism to take advantage of individuals willing to help with Section projects (short term projects, mentorship opportunities). Target our volunteers into specialized groups to utilize in task force groups. Enhance the mechanism to optimize volunteers, writers, member involvement. Data base for evaluate and match skill set to Section need. Develop specific task forces for projects with a definite time line to get more interested members who want to volunteer involved. Develop systematic process for recruiting and deploying volunteers and for robust succession planning. Secure expertise and resources to coordinate and provide ongoing content and monitoring of social media and web presence. Update the Section s website to a more robust, user friendly and professional looking design in Develop a standardized process for recruiting and selecting candidates for Section office. 8 Utilize multimedia and social networking consistently to keep members informed of benefits of membership and Section activity. Increase Section social media presence to improve membership engagement and to promote the profession by Increase Section Internet and social media presence by having frequent posts containing Section and SIG content. Work with APTA to allow direct or independent membership with Orthopaedic Section without joining APTA initially five year plan. Include Section office staff and other resources when considering Board/committee/SIG initiatives. Analyze data on Section membership and determine why orthopaedic APTA members might not be joining. Create process for ongoing communication with membership regarding: renewal reminders, lapsed, reinstated, new members. Develop a process for contacting lapsed and dropped members each month in an effort to determine why they dropped, and if we can recruit them as members again. Uniform marketing material (paper and electronic) will be available at CSM, Orthopaedic meeting, Private Practice Section, Student Conclave, etc. include SIG information. Develop marketing material for all Section SIGs Priority Objectives to achieve goal: Goal: Member Engagement Priority Objective : Develop a systematic process for recruiting and utilizing volunteers for Section initiatives.

5 MC Action: work with section staff to determine best way to direct interested members to work with the appropriate committees and projects Priority Objective : Enhance membership involvement in governance. Develop leadership training programs Define areas that need volunteers/elected officers Develop standardized process to recruit members and increase involvement Develop appropriate orientation procedures for both elected leaders and volunteers Ensure appropriate staffing and funding to carry out initiatives. MC Action: work with section staff to develop the trainings and determine areas that require volunteers; communication developed for several member categories to be sent regarding renewal of membership in order to attempt reinstatement of lapsed members. Priority Objective: Develop ongoing communication process to increase membership. Analyze data in membership There are 12,858 Active PTs who identified as having a Specialty Area/Clinical Focus in Orthopedics but are not currently in the Orthopedics section 5,786 of them were in the Orthopedics section in the past. There are 1,433 Active PTAs who identified as having a Specialty Area/Clinical Focus in Orthopedics but are not currently in the Orthopedics section. 256 of them were in the Orthopedics section in the past. Develop effective multimedia and social networks to keep current members engaged. Develop strategies to promote membership appreciation. MC Action: data has been received in regarding to membership and the new portal provided by APTA has great relevant data that the committee can utilize in the future; MC will work with PR committee to develop social media; We have developed a welcome that will be sent to every new member welcoming them to the section and informing them of all we have to offer Priority Objective: Develop strategies to enhance members recruitment and retention. Develop marketing collaterals Section booth with representation at national meetings Continue to develop and grow the Mentorship Program. MC Action: work with section staff and PR committee for development of collaterals; the booth will have representation from the MC members attending CSM via sign-up sheet; Mentorship program participants increased to 20 this year! Membership Count Dec 2014

6 Total members = 19,085 second closest section is Sports section with 7,784 - Historically increase in January and February due to CSM and drop in subsequent months Membership Count August 2013 (for comparison) 18,689 Transaction Counts April 2014 ***69.4% of members lost were reinstated Transaction Counts August 2013 (for comparison) ***63% of members lost were reinstated
