4 WHAT WILL WE ACHIEVE TODAY what leadership means for you and the people you work with how to recognise your own leadership skills and the impact this has on your practice each other s roles in providing a high quality service to children and young people.
5 WHY COLLABORATE AND INFLUENCE? Health and social care standards The new standards are relevant across all health and social care provision. They are no longer just focused on regulated care settings but for use in health and social care, as well as in early learning and childcare, children s services, social work and community justice. SSSC Codes of practice (code 6) Recognise and respect the roles and expertise of workers from other professions and work in partnership with them.
6 2017: Strategy for enhancing the leadership capability of Scotland s social services - Delivery plan To improve outcomes for people receiving social services, families and communities by supporting the development of effective leadership not only at all levels of the workforce but also with the people the workforce supports
7 WHAT THE STRATEGY HIGHLIGHTS.. To address some of these challenges, there is a need to innovate and collaborate in response to the financial and changing political context, public service reform and changes in the way services are delivered, for example integration and developments in early learning and child care. To work effectively in a way that is constructive and adaptable, there is a need for social services to influence partners in inter-professional teams, see the bigger picture, look to the future, be brave and challenge, and manage risk and barriers.

13 WHAT WORKING TOGETHER MEANS Common Core of skills, knowledge and values Respect: see people using services as experts in their own lives with opinions, knowledge and experiences; value the contribution of others. Collaboration: understand that you can achieve improved outcomes through people working together in partnership. Participation and dignity: promote the rights of individuals to play an active part in their community, as much as they want to and respect their choices of how they wish to lead their lives. Empowerment: make sure people who use services recognise and use their strengths and are able to make informed decisions.

15 WHAT IS THE SSSC DOING? The social service sector employs more than 200,000 people in Scotland, including 36,000 day care of children staff and 5,500 childminders (SSSC, 2016). Promotion of workforce development. Strategic meetings on the ELC expansion. Childminder learning and development resource. Development of online resources. Promoting the BA and PDA in childhood practice.
