3 INTRODUCTION The Ballymena Locality group was established during The group aims to improve the outcomes for children and young people through a multiagency planning approach. The locality planning group is an ongoing process of engagement with children, young people and their families. Membership is open to all organisations who provide services in the area and the group is particularly keen to hear from children, young people and families themselves. We recognise that by working together we can all achieve better outcomes for our children and young people. This booklet was put together with the aim of providing contact details for each member that represents the Ballymena Children and Young People s Locality Group, with information also on the services provided. 5 BARNARDOS SAFE CHOICES NI Working with young people who either go missing or at risk of child sexual exploitation. NI Wide. All ages. John Finnigan I am a senior practitioner with safe choices. My main role is to work directly with young people. 6 BARNARDO S YOUNG CARERS SERVICE Individual support, group work, peer support, family support, recreational outlet and focus work. Ballymena/Antrim and surrounding areas years. 7 COMMUNITY FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAMME Offer young people and their families, comprehensive support and the confidence to tackle the challenges of daily life, by identifying solutions and working together to: Prevent young people aged leaving education. Support year olds return to education, training or find employment. Assist adults 19+ years to follow their personal career path, access training and develop the skills towards finding employment. 10 NGAGE - ONE STOP SHOP We are a one stop shop for young people aged 11-25, providing them with a social space with specific drop in times each week. We also provide information, counselling, sign posting, referrals etc. Our space is used by other agencies such as Prince s Trust, Bernardos & NRC to run their programmes, this enables young people to use these services more readily. Ballymoney, Coleraine, Moyle and Ballymena years. Indu Callaghan I am a trained teacher in Maths, Business & Economics and used to live and work in London over a period of 10 years. A couple of years ago I moved to NI and now work as a key worker for Start360, my passion is Education, Employment & Self esteem which I believe are essential components life. 11 NHSCT - PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING The NHSCT Public Health Nursing service delivers the Healthy Child, Healthy Future, and Child Health Promotion Programme for Northern Ireland. This is a public health programme that offers every family with children a programme of screening, immunisations, developmental reviews, and information and guidance to support parenting and healthy choices so that children and families achieve their optimum health and wellbeing. 12 PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCY (PHA) Under the core goal of improving health and wellbeing a Health Improvement representative from the Northern Health and Social Wellbeing Improvement Team sits on each CYCSP group in the Northern Area. Where appropriate PHA work relating to children and young people is fed into the CYCSP group and information is fed back to the Northern H&SWI team. The following are examples of the areas of work covered by various Health Improvement Team members: Tobacco control Obesity prevention Breastfeeding Sexual Health Mental Health & wellbeing Suicide Prevention Poverty Oral Health Older People Antrim, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Carrickfergus, Coleraine, Cookstown, Larne, Maghaerfelt, Moyle and Newtownabbey council areas. 13 ROE/STRENTHENING FAMILIES Roots of Empathy (ROE) is an evidence based classroom programme that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among school children by raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy. Strengthening Families is an evidence based programme aimed at reducing alcohol and drug use, behavioural problems in adolescence and strengthening the parent/carer child relationship.
