2 Dear Colleagues: I am very pleased to announce that the 2nd Asian Facial Plastic Surgery Society Congress and the 7th TAFPRS Annual Meeting will be held during October 7-9, 2011, at the Agora Garden, Taipei. On behalf of the Asian Facial Plastic Surgery Society and the TAFPRS, it is a real pleasure to invite you to the second AFPSS Congress and 7th TAFPRS Annual Meeting that is goingto be held in Taiwan. This meeting will be hosting important facial plastic surgeons from all over the Asia who will be sharing their knowledge and expertise with fellow colleagues. Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, a special field, has been considerably advanced in recent decades. The first Congress was successfully held in Jakarta in All meetings have been extraordinary learning opportunities and great social and cultural events. Taipei will not be the exception. Our second meeting will focus on the most important subjects related to this specialty, and provide a forum for exchange of Asian experiences in this field. Taipei will not only be a place to acquire knowledge. The beauty and magic of this pacific city combined with the warmth of the climate and of our Taiwan people will make it an experience worth having. It also has been proven to be an extremely significant opportunity to share our experiences and expand our knowledge in this field, as well as to refresh our friendships. The Organizing Committee has done its best to prepare an outstanding scientific program. The meeting has a live demonstration, special lectures, panel discussions and free papers. The special lectures and symposia will cover updates and hot topics in our specialty. The event will bring together the leading experts in the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. The scientific program covers all the major areas of the field in a balanced entity, simultaneously focusing on topical issues. We have the desire to present a broad spectrum of scientific highlights, innovations and educational issues. The meeting will update us with the most essential new knowledge as well as scientific advancements in the field. 3 Dear Colleagues: It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2nd Asian Facial Plastic Surgery Society Congress and the 7th Annual Meeting of the Taiwanese Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I offer my congratulations to my esteemed colleagues in the TAFPRS for their outstanding work and my sincere appreciation to all our honored guests for joining us today. The Asian Facial Plastic Surgery Society was founded in 2009 in Seoul by a group of ENT-based facial plastic surgeons from various Asian countries. AFPSS was borne out of a need for a society adequately representing the entire community of Asian facial plastic surgeons. The society s vision is to encourage the spread of facial plastic surgery within our respective component societies and throughout Asia, through the exchange and dissemination of information, setting professional standards for its members, and supporting the continuing education of its members. It is by no accident that Taiwan is hosting this Facial Plastic Congress. As many of you may know, Taiwan was formerly called Formosa from the Portugese Ilha Formosa or Beautiful Island. What better place to talk about how to create and maintain beauty than this beautiful island. The concept of beauty is an ever-changing dynamic. Western standards can differ remarkably from Asians. This poses many challenges to facial plastic practitioners in the orient. This meeting will highlight the Asian perspective in basic and advanced rhinoplasty, facial contouring, minimally invasive rejuvenation techniques and other issues. All these topics can strengthen and expand your surgical knowledge and will prove to be beneficial to both experts and novices alike. These annual meetings provide an incredible chance to build stronger ties among members from such diverse backgrounds and create an invaluable opportunity for networking between members and member countries. It is my sincere hope that you will take this remarkable opportunity to interact with our colleagues, share information and re-establish old or forge new friendships in this multinational gathering.
